J. Carroll Amundson Professor of British History

The Department of History at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for the Amundson Professorship of British History, to begin in Fall Term 2025. Applicants should have outstanding research records and be acknowledged leaders in British history broadly defined. This may include the British Isles, the British Empire, the Commonwealth, connections with or within the Indian Ocean, the Atlantic, Africa, Asia, continental Europe, or beyond. Appointment will be at the associate or full professor level.

Required qualifications:

· Ph.D. in history (or closely related field)

· Research focuses on British history broadly defined, including the British Empire, the Commonwealth, and connected networks and realms

· A record of impactful international research and publication

· Demonstrated excellence in teaching and graduate mentorship

We favor candidates with a record of creative scholarly collaboration as well as outstanding individual productivity. The appointee will join a department with significant strength in global, transnational, and comparative approaches and a commitment to innovative graduate training, in a research university with a wealth of resources in international and interdisciplinary area studies and a vibrant World History Center. We ask that applicants demonstrate how their research and teaching interests will contribute to one or more of our cross-regional research clusters or help to create new ones: .
