**Job Introduction**

Your mission is to provide a healthy, nutritious, varied and reliable meals service to our elderly residents.

**Role Responsibility**

It starts with developing, in consultation with residents and staff, healthy balanced menus, with choices which reflect the needs and preferences of residents. Youll therefore plan, prepare and cook residents meals from the agreed menu, taking into account personal preferences or recognised dietary requirement (e.g. diabetes). All residents are to be offered at least three meals per day. And by regularly seeking feedback, youll monitor their satisfaction with the menu and quality of the food provided.

Youll also ensure a safe and sufficient supply of catering products, by developing a system of ordering supplies in a timely manner. And to ensure good stock control, youll make sure catering orders and deliveries are recorded using documentation supplied, to enable all orders to be checked and audited. Maintenance of a system of effective stock rotation and control is paramount, and by doing so, you will manage catering costs within the agreed catering budget.

You will also ensure safe and proper use of catering equipment, and report any defects to management. It is also important that you adhere to kitchen cleaning procedures and schedules in accordance with Environmental Health standards, and keep the kitchen and store areas in a clean and hygienic condition. Correct use of all equipment and products in line with COSHH requirements is key, as is the need to keep all COSHH assessments under review. You will also participate in and supervise the completion of all relevant records in relation to food safety.

**The Ideal Candidate**

Youll have a relevant Certificate in Food Hygiene, or be prepared to obtain one within the first three months in the role. Equally, you will have demonstrable experience of cooking varied, healthy and safe meals to large groups (twelve or more, and sometimes up to 20), on a regular basis.

Youll also have the ability to communicate and interact well with people, and work productively as part of a team. And in a modern working environment, naturally you need to be able to read and write to a good standard.

Youll be methodical and highly organised; your kitchen and equipment will be kept clean and tidy, with an effective method of stock rotation.

Finally, you should be able to demonstrate an empathy and understanding of the nutritional needs of older people.

**About the Company**

Located in popular seaside town of Great Yarmouth, one of East Anglia's best beach resorts, its famous history stems from its maritime heritage and port which was once the heart of the herring industry, and is where you'll find Abbeyfield House.

Built in 1975, it has been part of Abbeyfield for over ten years and has nine rooms each with its own toilet and kitchen and our upper floor is accessible by a chair lift also have a balcony. We also have a small room which we use for trial and short stays.

We believe in being part of a community and coming together, our delightful communal lounge and dining room are the ideal locations for getting to know other residents, finding companionship and chatting to someone about your day.

We have a wonderful well maintained garden with ample seating area, perfect for relaxing, enjoying the sunshine, or catching up with some old and new friends or family. There is a conservatory with a seating area and a small library available. In the summer

Abbeyfield House is ideally situated, we're a seven minute drive away from the seafront and a stone's throw away from the River Bure, we also have the train station nearby with routes to Ipswich, Cambridge and London.

Great Yarmouth is famous for its Golden Mile, where you'll discover the best choice of restaurants and seaside entertainment around with rides and attractions for all ages. You'll also discover scenic countryside, quaint villages including Gorleston-on-Sea and the delightful village of Hemsby.
