    Compensation:
    $15.75/hour-$19.65/hour

    TEMPORARY additional differential of $1.50/hr for all hours worked.

    Position is located at Parsons State Hospital, 8:00a-4:30p, days/hours may vary.


    All employees are expected to work in a harmonious and cooperative fashion with other staff to provide efficient and effective customer service: to use free time as available to assist other staff in the completion of work assignments and perform other tasks as needed; to contribute to a positive work environment through a positive, helpful, courteous demeanor towards staff, customers and the general public; and to adhere to appropriate standards of conduct regarding the use of leave, reports to work on time and in the designated fashion.


    The purpose of this position is to inspect, repair, adjust, install and clean all of the refrigeration and air conditioning equipment at PSHTC.

    Use of protective clothing or gear and knowledge of specific safety standards and/or procedures is required to properly and safely perform certain job functions.

    The essential functions of this position require moderate physical exertion. Must be able to climb ladders and scaffolding and work at rooftop heights. Must be able to work in confined spaces and work in all weather elements. Must be able to lift and carry in excess of 50 lbs. and team lift and carry in excess of 100 lbs.


    Parsons State Hospital is funded in part by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and is subject to requirements bestowed by Federal and State levels of government conditions of participation.


    Qualifications:

    Minimum Criteria:
    Six months of experience in refrigeration-air/conditioning repair work. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.


    Special Requirements:
    A/C Certification of refrigerant evacuation in high pressured HVAC systems, and proper storage of such liquids & gases. Knowledge of the refrigeration cycle, refrigerants and of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment of smaller tonnage.

    Knowledge of the standard practices, methods, and tools used in installing, operating, maintaining and repairing refrigeration and air conditioning equipment of smaller tonnage.

    Knowledge of pneumatic controls.

    Knowledge of principles and practices of electricity and circuitry as applied to smaller refrigeration and air conditioning units and their controls.

    Ability to install, adjust, maintain and repair smaller refrigeration and air conditioning units. Ability to solder and braze. Ability to understand and carry out general oral and written instructions. Ability to analyze equipment malfunctions and reach sound conclusions as to cause of problem. Ability to use and care for tools and measuring and testing equipment common to the trade.


    Preferred Criteria:


    Prefer 30 months of experience in refrigeration and air conditioning work, six months of which must have been at the skilled (journeyman) level.

    Training in refrigeration and air conditioning repair and maintenance at the high school level or at an accredited post high school academic or vocational institution may be substituted for the required non-skilled level experience.

    Staff who operates a motor vehicle must possess a valid Kansas driver's license.


    Positions in this class require that at the time of appointment the selected candidate must pass a law enforcement security clearance in compliance with policies of the Department of Aging and Disability Services.
