    Closing Date Summary:

    To supervise, organize, and participate in the HVAC activities; and to perform a variety of technical tasks including the installation, replacement, maintenance and repair of HVAC systems and equipment and to provide staff assistance to the HVAC Supervisor.

    Direct impact on issues relating to operation and maintenance of HVAC systems in all schools and facilities of Charlotte-Mecklenburg SchoolsEssential Duties:
    Responds to Operational Emergencies related to HVAC systems, as required; troubleshoot issues to determine causes and implement solutions.

    Recommends and assists in the implementation of departmental goals and objectivesEstablishes schedules and methods for the HVAC maintenance staffImplements policies and proceduresPlans, prioritizes, assigns, supervises and reviews the work of the HVAC staffEvaluates operations and activities of HVAC system installation, maintenance and repair; then recommends improvements and modificationsPerforms tests and maintains records for emergency backup systemsAcquires materials and inventory as needed to maintain production of the crewRepairs HVAC deficiencies as noted by State and Local fire, safety, and insurance officialsEstimates cost of repairs (labor, materials); purchases materials/supplies; and maintains records involving time, labor, and materialsPerforms the most complex HVAC duties.

    Installs, maintains, repairs, and replaces defective or worn parts in motors, generators, pumps, breaker panels, HVAC, and Energy Management Controls, switches and other facilities and equipmentTroubleshoots malfunctions and identifies plan of action to resolve problemsAssists in the training of staffInstructs all employees in safe work practicesAssists in the Evaluation of HVAC Department StaffManages departmental materials, equipment, and suppliesMaintains records of work completed and costs associated with projectsAbility to identify problems with related Electrical, Plumbing, Energy Management Equipment, and collaborate with respective technicians in the repairsPerform related duties as assigned.


    Education and Experience:
    MinimumHigh School Diploma or GED with seven (7) years of experience - or
    • Diploma or Associates degree in HVAC technology / DDC control systemsThree (3) to Five (5) years of increasing responsible HVAC experience.

    Two (2) years as a team leader and/or increasing responsibility as the lead manDesirableGraduate of trade school and/or accredited college with focus in HVACN.C.

    State Contractor's License with five (5) years of responsible HVAC experienceThree (3) to Five (5) years as a team leader and/or responsibility as the lead manLicensing / Certification Requirements:

    One or more of relevant specialty areas professional level NATE certification or the ability to obtain within 6 months of starting the positionUniversal CFC certificationPossess a valid North Carolina Driver's license# of Jobs 1.00 Salary: From 22.63 Salary: To 28.83 Teacher Scale N Minimum Educational Requirements HS diploma Term 12 Month Additional Job Information Knowledge / Skills / Abilities: Knowledge of full range of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the HVAC Heat trade Full knowledge and use of HVAC/Boiler Test Equipment Familiarity with components and parts, and advanced HVAC controls used in HVAC and Energy Management.

    Ability to Troubleshoot Ability to read and work from diagrams, schematics, blueprints, plans, and specifications Ability to maintain accurate record keeping Ability to demonstrate Mechanical proficiency Ability demonstrate effective Communication skills Ability to provide training for HVAC Mechanic I, II, and HVAC Controls Specialist positions Ability to work in hazardous and emergency situations Ability to understand oral and written instructions and perform with little or no supervision Ability to maintain safe work practices Physical Requirements:
