- The Neuro Critical Care Nurse Practitioner (NP) and Physician Assistant (PA) work in collaboration with a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Function as the primary care team for neurotrauma patients in all aspects of patient care from admission to discharge.
- NP/PA has a strong foundation in evidence-based practice and education, responsibility for ensuring adherence to critical care pathways and protocols and ensures an environment of safe quality care.

- Conducts complex, standardized patient care procedures which require experience and specialized training which would otherwise be performed by a physician, but which do not constitute the practice of medicine.
- Conducts independent and physician supervised rounding on unit.
- Performs relevant patient evaluations and assessments, and provides appropriate treatment; including monitoring and ordering medications.
- Coordinates, directs, and implements the patient's plan of care.
- Assists in collecting patient histories, screens for co-morbidities, and provides guidance and preventative health care as needed.
- Performs physical examinations and provides episodic care, or problem-oriented care, under the supervision of a physician.
- Orders appropriate laboratory, diagnostic and radiographic tests, and interprets results.
- Monitors the treatment program of the patient to inform the attending physician of pertinent medical information.
- Facilitates patient education relating to medical processes, medication, nutrition, and health promotion or preventative health care.
- Assists physicians in formulating therapeutic decisions.
- Maintains appropriate records, and prepares charts for review and counter signature by physician.
- Prepares and cares for supplies and equipment.
- Responds to emergency situations.
- Performs within the scope of practice prescribed by licensure and certification.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

That's where you come in.We are currently looking for a full-time Nurse Practitioner to support our Neurosurgery - Neurotrauma IMU/Floor. The NP works 15 days per month 6 am-5 pm (includes holiday and weekend coverage).
This position is for an APP on a team with an attending physician as the primary service for neurotrauma floor and IMU level patients.
The team is staffed with 1-2 APPs daily and one attending physician.UTHealth Neurosciences houses one of the largest and busiest Neuroscience Intensive Care Units (NSICU) in the country.
With the most experienced neurointensivists and advanced practice providers (APP), our critical care team provides unparalleled care for the sickest patients in our region.
The NSICU is a growing 38-bed ICU with 12 Intermediate Care beds that specializes in providing critical care to patients with traumatic brain injuries, strokes, brain tumors, and other acute neurological and neurosurgical diseases.
The academic teaching service includes faculty, APPs, fellows, residents, and medical students at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston.
Our large referral base ensures a consistently high volume of critically ill patients. Our multidisciplinary approach helps promote team learning, group dynamics, and excellent patient care.We focus on monitoring the neurological status of our patients, detecting cues of neurological decline, early intervention, and state-of-the-art NSICU management.

Certification/Skills:
Current Texas Licensure as a Registered Nurse
Current Texas Licensure as an APRN-NP
Current specialty certification as required by department, excluding FNP certification unless paired with a post master's certification in specialty.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certified or specialty certification as required by department.
Minimum Education:
Masters in Nursing as NP or Masters in Nursing with completion of a post-masters Nurse Practitioner Certification Program.
Minimum Experience:
None; previous experience in area of clinical focus preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
