Civil EIT - Columbia, United States - Stantec Inc.

    Default job background
    Description

Many of the world's top engineers and scientists come together in our Water business because they view a community's interaction with water a bit differently-as a single holistic system, rather than unconnected networks divided by jurisdictional boundaries.

Working throughout the hydrologic cycle, we are delivering sustainable solutions to make sure water is where it should be and available when needed.

Our experts guide our work with scientific rigor, an innovative spirit, and a vision for growth. Every day, we help communities improve, reuse, and protect this precious resource for future generations. By 2025 we're hiring 2,000 people (like you) to join our team. Grow with us, H2O+U.

Stantec's Water Resource practice has an immediate opportunity for a Civil Engineer-in-Training. As a Civil EIT you will provide comprehensive engineering services to Stantec clients for a variety of infrastructure projects.

    Your Opportunity

The role of an entry level civil engineer is to work on projects both small and large, and as a team member under the close guidance and supervision of a senior engineer.

You will perform a variety of tasks related to water/geotechnical components of water, dam, power, and infrastructure projects that may include calculations, field work, coordination of simple tasks, and meeting attendance and recording.

The smaller projects that an entry level civil engineer may be assigned to will have relatively few complex features.

In general, an entry level civil engineer will assist more senior engineers/designers by performing the routine aspects of civil engineering assignments.

    Your Key Responsibilities

    • Conducts basic calculations and performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned and under the supervision of a project engineer.
    • May perform field work related to geotechnical explorations and/or construction related activities.
    • Assists team in preparing civil designs, drawings, specifications, presentations, and reports.
    • Assists in supporting the civil team in providing support services during construction that can include submittal reviews, responses to requests for information and contract document clarifications.
    • Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
    Qualifications

    Your Capabilities and Credentials

    • An understanding of civil engineering concepts and analysis methods.
    • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
    • Ability to interpret sketches, engineering drawings, and other similar material.
    • Basic experience in Microsoft Office, and familiarity with AutoCAD Civil3D, Geostudio, and gINT.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Willing to travel on an as needed basis.
    Education and Experience

    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering. Masters prepared candidates are preferred.
    • Must have taken and successfully passed the FE exam and be an EIT.
    • Minimum of 0-5 years of experience.
    • Co-op/Internship experience preferred.
    • Travel/ field work 25-50% of the time
Typical office environment working with computers and working at a desk for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
