Overview
Mendocino Forest Products Company (MFP) is looking for a Packaging Laborer to join our Day Shift Team (5am - 3pm M-F, Sat 5am - 2pm) at our Ukiah, CA location .
This is a non-exempt position, the hourly rate for this position is $24.87 and includes benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K matching and company paid Life Insurance.
The Mendocino Companies (Mendocino Forest Products Company, Mendocino Redwood Company, Humboldt Redwood Company, Humboldt Sawmill Company, and Allweather Wood) own nearly 450,000 acres of Forest Stewardship Council (FSC C certificated redwood and Douglas-fir timberland, constitute the largest waterborne wood treater in the Western USA, and is the largest producer of redwood lumber in the world.
Responsibilities
Packaging Laborere keeps production areas clean and safe and assists in other areas of sawmill in a safe and productive manner.

Performs a wide variety of jobs and duties as assigned, with a high level of proficiency and accuracy
Regularly operates a forklift
Keeps equipment and work area clean
Performs as a relief operator on other jobs as needed
Performs scheduled inspections on equipment and prepares reports as required for management and maintenance personnel
Keeps designated areas, as assigned by supervisor, clean and clear of sawdust, wood chips, bark, strips and other foreign objects;
Operates chain saw to cut up scrap lumber and broken logs;
Uses hand tools to move sawdust, chips and bark into conveyors, bins and scoop on tractor;
Operates Bobcat and forklift to transport debris to conveyors or disposal site;
May pull strips off of transfer chains into conveyors to chippers;
May keep lumber straight on transfer chains to trimmer;
Empties all garbage cans in and around sawmill;
Provides assistance where needed.
Qualifications
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or 1 months related experience and/or training; or one year equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to read and understand instructions and memos and write simple sentences.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and communicate.
The employee is occasionally required to smell.
The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this position include close, distance, color, peripheral and ability to adjust focus.While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, and vibration.
The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; and risk of electrical shock.The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
This position requires eye protection, hearing protection, leather or rubber gloves, safety shoes, and hard hat.
