Employment Attorney - New York, United States - On Call Counsel

Under the supervision of the General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel, the incumbent attorney will manage complex legal matters having significant financial, procedural and administrative implications for the agency and citys operations.

This addition to the team will provide legal support and guidance to front-line and senior agency staff. The attorney will act as a liaison to other agencies, including various NYC departments, and will handle conflict-of-interest and business integrity matters, as well as research and draft legal opinions and policy statements.

The attorney will ensure that the agency does not fall behind on critical deadlines and responsibilities. The selected individual will be responsible for responding to records requests and subpoenas - primarily related to payroll data. The attorney will review documents submitted as part of a beneficiary process, which includes ensuring compliance with applicable laws such as the Surrogates Court Procedure Act Section 1310. The attorney will also be responsible for tracking and responding to FOIL requests, including review and redaction of responsive data and review of applicable FOIL exemptions. Finally, the attorney may also handle audit-related legal matters and EEO/Human Resources matters.

Qualifications:

• Actively licensed to practice law and in good standing in the State of New York with 3++ years of general employment/government/policy experience.
• Recent substantive employment law experience - including case investigation, policy review and revision, and working knowledge of FOIL related concepts/actions.
• Candidates must have strong analytical, research, writing, computer, and communication skills.

Compensation: Commensurate with experience.
