    FULL-TIME MUSEUM GUIDE

    Overview:

    The purpose of this position is to provide prompt, courteous, and professional service to guests, trainees, and employees.This position will conduct and ensure that tours are presented in a consistent educational and professional manner that reflects the Mission, Vision, and Spirit of the Space and Rocket Center.

    Responsibilities:

    This position will be required to cross-train across multiple areas to best serve the needs of the museum. This position will serve as a mentor to new employees as a means to maintain a highly professional and efficient Museum team.

    The position reports to the Museum Operations Manager but actively participates as a part of a team that includes simulation operations and all educational programming within the U.S. Space & Rocket Center. This team effort is to broadly organize, plan, and execute the appropriate mission for the U.S. Space and Rocket Center.

    1. Essential Functions: Meet or exceed the expectations of the Museum for providing guests with a quality museum experience.
    2. Conduct scheduled and impromptu presentations, live demonstrations, and tours in a professional and timely manner following the Museum Guide Tour handbook and Museum Standard Operating Procedures.
    3. Facilitate daily activities for groups of all ages in an enthusiastic and professional manner
    4. Complete opening and closing checklists and promptly report any malfunctioned or damaged artifacts and exhibits to the Museum and or technical staff.
    5. Operate museum exhibits for the public in an effective, efficient, and safe manner.
    6. Continuously patrol the museum area, promptly assist guests, and answer questions.
    7. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment for guests and employees.
    8. Meet or exceed Rocket Center professional and safety standards for the safe, effective, and efficient operation of all simulators (museum and outside simulators).
    9. Perform safety checks, and complete required checklists proper to opening simulators to ensure correct and safe operation.Ensure that simulators are operated correctly and on schedule.
    10. Report any simulator problems or malfunctions to the Aerospace Simulations Supervisor or Simulation Technical staff promptly.
    11. Conduct accurate verbal presentations to guests and trainees regarding the nature and operation of simulators in a manner that is understood by all.
    12. Other duties as needed, e.g. character costume presentation
    13. Meet or exceed the expectations of the Museum Manager/Assistant Manager for providing guests and trainees with a quality and safe simulator experience.
    14. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment for guests, trainees, and employees.
    15. Meet or exceed the expectations of the Museum Manager/Asst. Manager for the accurate and timely completion of related tasks and assignments.
    16. Other duties as assigned, e.g. character costume presentation
    17. Process admission accommodations for daily guests in an accurate and timely manner ensuring that guests receive quality and professional service.

    Qualifications

    Required Education and Experience:
    • High School diploma or equivalent.
    • Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
    Preferred Education and Experience:
    • At least 12 months of experience working with the public is required.
    • The applicant must possess excellent verbal communication skills to interact effectively and courteously with the general public.
    • Public speaking experience is strongly desired.
    Other Requirements:
    • Must be able to work between the times of 8:45 am-5:15 pm.
    • Must be able to work weekends.
    This position has the following special requirements:
    • Walking and climbing (stairs) to access other departments and experience all areas of the facility.
    • Standing for long periods (6-9 hours).
    • Carrying and lifting equipment, supplies, and objects weighing up to 30 pounds to waist height.
    • Bending, kneeling, and reaching to store & retrieve supplies and operate simulators.
    • Reading, seeing, wrist movements, feeling to operate simulators, and completing safety checks.
    • Talking and hearing to communicate with supervisors, guests, trainees, and employees in person and over the telephone; answer questions.
    • Must be able to operate museum simulators free of fear or anxiety for the safety of our trainees and guests.
    • This position involves working in both a climate-controlled environment and outside where exposed to various weather conditions and changing temperatures.
    • This position deals extensively with the public, trainees of all ages, and employees throughout the organization.
