    Role

    Leading teachers will be highly skilled classroom practitioners and undertake leadership and management roles commensurate with their salary range. The role of leading teachers is to improve the skill, knowledge and performance of the teaching workforce in a school or group of schools and to improve the curriculum program of a school.

    Typically, leading teachers are responsible for coordinating a number of staff to achieve improvements in teaching and learning which may involve the coordination and professional support of colleagues through modelling, collaborating and coaching and using processes that develop knowledge, practice and professional engagement in others.

    Leading teachers are expected to lead and manage a significant area or function within the school with a high degree of independence to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the school's education program.

    Leading teachers will be expected to make a significant contribution to policy development relating to teaching and learning in the school. A leading teacher has a direct impact and influence on the achievement of the school goals.

    Leading teachers are usually responsible for the implementation of one or more priorities contained in the school strategic plan.

    Responsibilities

    In recognition of the importance of leadership and management combined with exemplary teaching practice for improved student learning outcomes, the key roles of the leading teachers may include but are not limited to:

  • Leading and managing the implementation of whole-school improvement initiatives related to the school strategic plan and school priorities
  • Leading and managing the implementation of whole-school improvement strategies related to curriculum planning and delivery;
  • Leading and managing the provision of professional development and developing individual and team development plans for teaching staff within the priorities of the school;
  • Leading and managing staff performance and development (review of staff);
  • Teaching demonstration lessons;
  • Leading and managing the development of the school's assessment and reporting policies and practices;
  • Leading and managing the implementation of the school operations and policies related to student welfare and discipline;
  • Leading the development of curriculum in a major learning area and participating in curriculum development in other areas;
  • Responsibility for general discipline matters beyond the management of classroom teachers;
  • Contributing to the overall leadership and management of the school;
  • Contributing to the development of proposals for school council consideration;
  • Developing and managing the school code of conduct.

    Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.

    VCAL SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:

    Develop, monitor, evaluate and modify the VCAL program to ensure quality outcomes.

    Work with the Assistant Principal to improve the delivery of learning outcomes for students undertaking VCAL, VET or SBAT's.

    Ensure staff understand and fulfil their responsibilities within each of these programs consistent with the ethos of the School and the requirements of the relevant statutory authorities.

    Develop, monitor, evaluate and modify the VET in Schools Certificates, School¿based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBAT's), preparation for post school options and transition programs

    Work with the VCAL Administrative Assistant to ensure accurate entry of data into VASS for VET, SBAT's and VCAL students in compliance with VCAA requirements.

    Maintain Applied Learning compliance requirements, VCAA, WynBay LLEN Cluster and relevant Registered Training organisations.

    Approve relevant activities / excursions for VCAL students.

    Ensure that appropriate planning, legislative compliance and risk assessments are undertaken for any camp or excursion pertaining to VCAL.

    Lead the VCAA VCAL Quality Assurance process.

    Provide students and their parents/guardians with all the relevant information concerning the VCAL, VET or SBAT's, including details of VCAL, VET or SBAT's units offered by the School, requirements for satisfactory completion of a unit, assessment calendar, appeal procedures and Special consideration processes.

    Work with students and parents/guardians regarding matters related to academic progress, attendance and pastoral care.

    Assume overall responsibility for the production of relevant documentation and communication pertaining to the VCAL, VET or SBAT's and for the organisation of Information Evenings.

    Consult with relevant staff to assist students to make informed decisions in planning and selecting their VCAL, VET or SBAT's program.

    Assist with the planning and coordination of major events relating to the VCAL, VET or SBAT's program.

    Provide timely and well-informed advice to students on subject selection and manage change of subjects for all VASS enrolled subjects.

    Ensure appropriate study and attendance protocols for students at school.

    Investigate and implement new curriculum initiatives for students from accredited training packages.

    VIT LANTITE

    To be eligible for employment, transfer or promotion in the principal or teacher class a person must have provisional or full registration from the Victorian Institute of Teaching. In addition, from 3 August 2020, to be eligible for employment in the principal class or teacher class, a person who graduated from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education program after 1 July 2016, must demonstrate that they have passed the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE) requirements. This condition is satisfied where the LANTITE requirement is part of the Victorian Initial Teacher Education program completed by the person.

    Location Profile

    Warringa Park School is a specialist school located in Hoppers Crossing. The school population is drawn from the City of Wyndham and caters for students aged 5 to18 years who have a diagnosed intellectual disability ranging from mild to profound. Warringa Park is a P-12 school organised around the three stages of learning - the early, middle and later years. The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) is offered in the later years. Our school currently has an enrolment of 704 students situated over four campuses. An alternative year 11 and 12 vocational training program is offered at our rural campus in Cayleys Rd Werribee South. A year 7 to 12 campus is situated on the grounds of The Grange P-12 College in Bethany Rd. Our new campus located at Polly Parade Tarneit opened this year and will cater for our foundation and lower primary students from Prep to Grade 2. Warringa Park School promotes and values excellence in education for students with additional learning needs. There is collective efficacy amongst teaching staff that all students in our school can learn and want to learn and by working together we can make a difference to their learning achievements. The school provides a balanced and personalised curriculum where improved learning outcomes in English, Mathematics and Science are seen as integral to the achievement of successful post school options.
