    POSITION SUMMARY

    We are looking for a fun, energetic, inspiring and nurturing Preschool Teacher who has a passion and commitment for working with young children, ages two and three years old. This is a full-time position with benefits and competitive pay.

    One City Teachers utilize the AnjiPlay curriculum for all ages at the preschool, and assure that all students learn the basic and essential skills that pertain to their age level and/or developmental ability. They provide a warm, nurturing, safe and loving environment where self-esteem is enhanced, independence encouraged, and individuality is respected.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
    Interactions between Teacher and Children

    • Available and responsive to children, encouraging them to share experiences, ideas and feelings.
    • Supports children's social, emotional, physical, cognitive and sociolinguistic development, assisting children to be comfortable, secure, happy and involved in play, structured learning and other activities.
    • Provides and maintains a creative and orderly classroom and school environment.
    • Models the care and upkeep of the classroom, play spaces, center materials, and other building space.

    Curriculum

    • Keeps current in child development knowledge and learning theory and is willing to share this knowledge for continual improvement of One City Preschool's educational program and AnjiPlay curriculum.
    • Assists in on-going curriculum reviews, including offering feedback on implementation and program effectiveness.
    • Becomes acquainted with supplemental materials and services beneficial to students as an extension of regular classroom activities.

    Instructional Skills

    • Plans and implements a program of instruction that adheres to One City's and AnjiPlay's philosophy, goals and objectives.
    • Makes purposeful and appropriate lesson plans that provide for effective teaching strategies and maximizes time on task.
    • Plans and implements a program designed to meet individual needs of children.
    • Creates a classroom environment conducive to active learning by employing a variety of appropriate teaching strategies, and inspires children's enthusiasm for the learning process.
    • Monitors the learning and development of each child, and provides progress reports as required.
    • Works cooperatively with designated outside support staff and supervises volunteers.
    • Recognizes learning challenges and makes referrals and interventions as appropriate.
    • Uses effective oral and written expression.
    • Evaluates accomplishments of students on a regular basis using multiple assessment methods.
    • Makes appropriate adjustments in the instructional program and as required by the Preschool Director.

    Child Guidance

    • Develops, in accordance with One City, City of Madison/Accreditation and state licensing guidelines, reasonable rules of classroom behavior and appropriate techniques that are consistently applied.
    • Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
    • Shares responsibility during the day for the supervision of students in all areas of the center.

    Family Connections

    • Builds and maintains positive and engaging relationships with parents.
    • Works cooperatively with families to strengthen the educational program for their children.
    • Respects each family's uniqueness and advocates for children and families, and One City Preschool.

    Professionalism

    • Respects and honors the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, families, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics, and state and federal laws.
    • Continues professional growth through participation in professional development opportunities offered by One City, higher education institutions, and other reputable institutions for continuing education; and attends team, staff and committee meetings as required.
    • Performs other duties as assigned by the Preschool Director.

    ROLE SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS

    • Strong commitment to the mission, vision, goals and objectives of One City, and to working with young children from diverse racial/cultural populations and their families.
    • Minimum of two years of experience working with young children preferred, but not required.
    • Bilingual Spanish is a plus, but not required.
    • Excellent judgment and creative problem solving skills.
    • Energetic, flexible, collaborative and proactive.
    • Ability to regularly and routinely lift and push at least 50 pounds.
    • Member of the Wisconsin Child Care Registry.
    • Completion of a background check required.
    • Be at least 18 years of age.

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

    • Strong commitment to the mission, vision, goals and objectives of One City.
    • Commitment to working with children from diverse racial/cultural populations and their families, experience preferred.
    • Ability to regularly and routinely lift and push at least 50 pounds.
    • Completion of a background check required.
    • Be at least 18 years of age.

    Established in 2014, One City Schools, Inc. is a nonprofit school management organization based in Madison, Wisconsin that operates high quality preschools and public charter 4K - 12 schools in Wisconsin. One City's mission is to seed a new model of public education that ensures children and teens are on track to succeed in a college or career preparatory program from birth through high school graduation.     One City Preschool (OCP) is an accredited, award-winning, tuition-based early childhood learning center operated by One City Schools, Inc. that serves children ages 3 months through 4 years. We facilitate and support your child's early learning, development, and wellness within a play-based learning environment, which leads to their success and a joy for learning in grade school and beyond. OCP is accredited by the City of Madison (WI) Child Care Division and recognized as a 5-Star (out of 5) childcare program by the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families. Note: OCP also operates a preschool serving infants and one-year-olds, but these age levels are currently only available to the staff of One City Schools.

    One City Elementary School (OCES) is a tuition-free public charter school in Madison, Wisconsin, dedicated to preparing children in grades 4K to 5 to have a positive and sustainable impact on the world.
