    The Salvation Army Midland Division Harbor House Shelter located in Columbia, Missouri, is looking for a Shelter Director. This position is responsible for coordination and operation of the Harbor House program including, but not limited to program development, implementation, and supervision; Grant Writing and Management; staff recruitment, development and supervision; fiscal management; and physical plant management. Position is expected to comply with and meet The Salvation Army, Federal, State and Local policies, and standards.

    This is a full-time position with starting pay wage of $53,537 - $55,143 per year

    • Oversee the operation of the Harbor House Shelter, including daily functioning and the program, for client support and development and contract compliance.
    • Supervise Harbor House professional staff to assure continuity of programs and compliance with The Salvation Army policies and procedures.
    • Recruit, screening and recommend the hiring of professional and support staff in a timely manner to avoid disruption of services and excessive overtime.
    • Provide orientation and training to new staff and perform consultations in compliance with TSA policy.
    • Coordinate, supervise and train college undergraduate interns.
    • Resolve staffing and client issues. Provide guidance to staff. Administer disciplinary action as necessary for all shelter staff in compliance with TSA policy.
    • Coordinate client case management activities to assure positive client outcomes; fair treatment of clients; confidentiality of clients; proper client records management; and proper management of client discipline issues.
    • Perform client case management function in the absence of assigned case managers and in conjunction with case managers for problematic cases.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    This position requires advanced communication and leadership skills. Requires a BA or BS degree in social work, psychology or other related field, Master's degree strongly preferred, accompanied by four (4) years' work experience in human service delivery, administration or management with progressive levels of responsibility, including supervisory and fiscal accountability and/or property management.

    Must be a team player, a self-starter, and perform well with minimum supervision and exhibit understanding of and experience with fiscal reports and processes. Excellent interpersonal skills, initiative and independent judgment and decision-making skills, independent and creative thinking.

    Must be supportive of The Salvation Army's mission and policies. The Position requires a high level of confidentiality. Ability to work with diverse and challenging personalities are essential. Ability to type correspondence using Word and create and update Excel spreadsheets. Familiarity with databases is a plus. Must possess or obtain Adult and Child CPR, First Aid and Blood Borne Pathogens certification and complete HMIS training within three months of employment. Must have a valid driver license, pass TSA MVR check and have reliable transportation. Demonstrated knowledge of community agencies and the ability to network with them is essential. Conflict resolution skills are essential.

    Physical and Work Environment Requirements:

    Must be capable of performing the above essential duties in an office environment to include: using a computer, answering phones, etc. Most work will be indoors in a environment. Some duties involve leaving the main job site for business errands and to attend meetings.
