    Description

    Job Summary:

    • Provide direct nursing care to assigned patients within the Inpatient Float Pool, consistent with the clinical specialty (PCU/ICU/ED etc.).
    • Minimum work requirement for RN Per Diem II is four shifts per schedule.
    • Two weekend shifts per schedule and one summer and one winter holiday are required.
    • Adhere to Hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
    • Patient care assignment may include; Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric age groups.

    Responsibilities:

    • Deliver safe direct care to an assigned group of patients as required.
    • Work in collaboration with the healthcare team to implement and document individualized care plans incorporating age specific considerations, including discharge planning and patient/family teaching.
    • Assist with special tests and procedures ensuring proper consent has been obtained.
    • Participate in orientation, and assume precepting and evaluation responsibilities of new personnel upon successful completion of preceptor training.
    • Assist with or institute emergency measures for sudden, adverse developments in patients.
    • Ensure that patient medical records contain necessary information.
    • Answer telephones and triage calls as per departmental policy.
    • Administer medication including IV medication via the Seven Rights; document and communicate clinical findings.
    • Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with Hospitals standards
    • Participate in educational programs, read current literature, attend in-services, meetings and workshops to enhance professional growth and development.
    • Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures, and protocols. Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and process.
    • Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk.
    • Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors, and/or near misses in a timely manner.
    • Encourage patients to actively participate in their care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right".
    • Adhere to and promote the core expectations of the Patient Centered Medical Home or Patient Centered Specialty Practice as applicable.

    Qualifications:

    • Graduate of an accredited nursing program. Bachelor's Degree preferred.
    • Minimum of one year of directly related experience.
    • CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days.
    • RN in NM or as allowed by reciprocal agreement by NM.
    • Nationally Certified in area of specialty, PALS, TNCC and/or ENPC preferred.
    • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds and use required protective equipment when handling Hazardous Materials.
    • Bilingual English, Spanish, Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo, a plus.
