    What You'll Do

KBR is looking for highly motivated rising Juniors, Seniors and Graduate students seeking science, engineering and software development opportunities that provide challenging and meaningful work experience to be a part of our 2024 Intern class.

As an energetic and enthusiastic intern with KBR, you will enhance the team's capabilities in designing, testing, and implementing comprehensive testing strategies for our machine learning algorithms. You will be focused on creating and executing both functional and integration tests to ensure the accuracy and quality of our algorithms when applied to static star and object imagery, as well as simulated data that closely resembles real-world scenarios. By dedicating resources to this testing initiative, we aim to improve the robustness and reliability of our machine learning models, ultimately leading to better performance and increased confidence in the software itself.

In coordination with other members of the team and using standard, open-source methodologies and tooling, design and develop a comprehensive testing framework. This framework will serve as a foundation for ensuring the accuracy and quality of the algorithms. You will conduct thorough testing on the team's imagery and observation-related, machine learning algorithms. This testing process will involve evaluating the algorithms' accuracy, precision, recall, and other relevant metrics to identify any potential issues or areas for improvement. Additionally, you will analyze test results and provide recommendations for improvement. Recommendations may include suggestions for optimizing algorithms, addressing any identified issues, and implementing additional features or techniques to improve the overall performance and reliability of the software.

As a National Security Solutions Intern, you will:

    • Develop a comprehensive testing framework:
    • Design and implement a testing framework that includes functional and integration tests for machine learning algorithms.
    • Develop a comprehensive testing framework:
    • Create test cases and test data covering various scenarios, including static star and object imagery and simulated data.
    • Conduct thorough testing of machine learning algorithms:
    • Execute the designed tests on the machine learning algorithms using the developed testing framework.
    • Evaluate algorithm performance using relevant metrics such as accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score.
    • Identify and document any issues, bugs, or performance bottlenecks discovered during testing.
    • Analyze test results and provide recommendations:
    • Analyze the results obtained from the testing process and compile detailed reports.
    • Identify areas for improvement and provide recommendations for optimizing the machine learning algorithms.
    • Suggest additional features, techniques, or approaches to enhance the overall performance and reliability of the software.
    • Collaborate with the development team:
    • Work closely with the software development team to understand the existing codebase and algorithms.
    • Participate in code reviews and provide feedback to ensure code quality and adherence to best practices.
    • Collaborate with team members to integrate testing framework and recommendations into the development workflow.
    • Document testing processes and findings:
    • Maintain clear and concise documentation of the testing framework, test cases, and test results.
    • Prepare technical reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to the team and stakeholders.
    • Contribute to the project's documentation, including user guides, API references, and technical specifications related to testing.

Selected interns for this paid opportunity will be provided with the opportunity to mentor with experienced professionals, gain experience and establish a name for themselves in this high demand career field.

    Anticipated Skill Set:

    • Python programming: Proficient in Python syntax, data structures, and libraries.
    • Git version control: Familiar with basic Git commands, branching, merging, and using Git for version control and code sharing.
    • Testing and debugging: Experienced in writing unit tests, using debugging tools, and troubleshooting common issues in Python.
    • CI/CD basics: Aware of CI/CD concepts and workflows, and willing to learn how to configure and use GitLab CI/CD.
    • Quick learner: Demonstrates the ability to rapidly acquire new skills and adapt to new technologies and methodologies.
    • Strong communication skills: Effectively communicates ideas, questions, and findings to team members and stakeholders.
    • Major field of study: Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, AI/ML Engineering, Computer Science, or Software Engineers.

Scheduled Weekly Hours: Average 40 hours per week.
