    Description

    The Sports Psychologist provides mental health and mental performance services to NFL Carolina Panthers, MLS Charlotte Football Club, Queens University of Charlotte, and High School athletes to optimize athletic performance and resiliency.

    This role's main duties include assessment, counselling, training on coping skills and education for the athlete, team, coaches, and administrators.

    Essential functions

    Collaborates with coaches and administrators to optimize behavioral wellness of teams and athletes with the NFL Carolina Panthers, MLS Charlotte Football Club, and Queens University of Charlotte.

    Provide short- and long-term mental health counselling to athletes.
    Seasonal nontraditional working hours.
    Serving as an on-call clinical and crisis management resource for all stakeholder groups.

    Assist athletes with developing coping strategies that help them cope with and overcome setbacks or injuries and manage off field pressure and anxiety.

    Identify mental strengths and weaknesses that contribute to or affect an athlete's performance.
    Engage in identification, planning and referral for clients needing a higher level of care.

    Provide individual and group therapy, crisis intervention, performance enhancement and preventative behavioral wellness team sessions, presentations, and workshops to athletic teams.

    Demonstrates ability to formulate an appropriate diagnosis using standards established in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.

    Demonstrates knowledge of various treatment modalities and theoretical applications based on current clinical standards and evidence based best practice.

    Thorough understanding of sports culture.

    Demonstrated leadership in developing and cultivating strong relationships with customers and partners at all levels of interaction from secondary schools to professional organizations.

    Demonstrated ability to interview, effectively engage, identify, and assess player needs.?
    Strong organizational, planning, and critical thinking skills.
    Education, Experience and Certifications
    Doctoral degree in clinical psychology from an APA (American Psychological Association) approved training program required.

    License eligible or currently licensed as a Licensed Practicing Psychologist from the NC State Board of Examiners of Practicing Psychologists required.

    Board certification in Sports Psychology or certification as a Certified Mental Performance Consultant through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology desired.

    Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

    Licensed mental health provider with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience working with a multicultural population and demonstrates the skills and competency appropriate to the ages, culture, developmental stage, and special needs of the patient population served.

    Experience with EPIC EMR (Electronic Medical Record), not required but preferred.
