THEATER ARTS TEACHER 1.0 FTE (ANTICIPATED)

Job Description:

PVPA has an opportunity for a dynamic full time Theater Arts Teacher for the school year. We are looking for a reflective practitioner who collaborates effectively with colleagues and understands the varied needs of students in grades 7-12. An ideal candidate is a strong educator well versed in a range of performance techniques and theater theory, and is able to seamlessly merge artistry with education. The Theater Department is dedicated to providing an enriching and engaging education both on and off the stage. Our aim is to combine classes which focus on the history, theory, and cultural significance of theater with classes in performance techniques and the creative process. A vibrant mix of performances and projects are produced annually which include two high school mainstage plays, one middle school mainstage play, one high school mainstage musical all produced on our campus. Under the direction of the Director of Arts, you will be responsible for:

Teaching five classes per semester (classes range from grades 7-12).
Use an anti-racist, anti-oppression framework to prepare curricula and instructional materials based on learning objectives.
Plan curricula and prepare course expectations and materials.
Supervise students during non-class time (ex:lunch) as required.
Assess student work and provide timely feedback to students and parents via the PowerSchool online grading system.
Apply PVPA standards based grading system to report on student course progress and achievement.
Attend and participate in regular collaborative team meetings with faculty and school-wide professional development activities.
Attend and participate in meetings with students and/or parents as scheduled, including open house and parent-teacher conferences
Coordinate with special educators to address the diverse needs of all learners
Other duties as required.

Qualifications;

The successful candidate will minimally hold a BA degree, be able to pass a background check (CORI/SORI & Fingerprinting) and be computer literate. Preferred qualifications include:

Two or more years of experience teaching theater in a public or private school, preferably at the secondary level.
Eligible for "Highly Qualified" teacher status (MA Certified or able to pass Communication & Literacy and Theater MTEL exam within 1 year).
Ability to teach theater courses relating to ensemble production, performance technique, history and culture, and theory.
Experience directing shows for students grades 7-12.
Knowledge of "National Standards for the Theatrical Arts" standards.

Other Information/Instructions:

Salary Range: $42,000 to $66,705 Annually. Additional $1,000 stipend for individuals who hold a DESE license in subject area and potential for bonus at the end of the fiscal year.

school year consists of 180 school days plus 5 professional development/curriculum work days and a thirty-five hour work week that includes, on average, three class blocks per day of collaborative/independent work time.
