    Description

    The Principal Engineer - Rail Systems will oversee the signal engineering efforts for all Brightline operational support projects. This individual will perform signal hardware design, application programming, lab simulation testing, field testing/commissioning, and contractor design review for all Rail Systems projects, as directed by the VP Rail Systems. This role requires the ability to modify existing or design new signal circuits for railway centralized traffic control (CTC), interlocking, 40 HZ cab signaling, highway-railway grade crossings, and positive train control (PTC) systems.

    Duties:

    • Perform signal hardware design, application programming, and lab simulation testing for all infrastructure and maintenance projects
    • Perform all preliminary design functions, including conceptual proposals, estimates, preliminary designer sketches, and control line engineering.
    • Supervise the design efforts of all contractor awarded projects, including design submittal review and approval
    • Perform preliminary and final circuit check for in-house and contractor designs
    • Provide field engineering support for all signal and PTC installations and system commissioning
    • Provide ongoing engineering support to all disciplines, including MOW, transportation, and mechanical services.
    • Coordination of engineering efforts with the Director of Construction - Rail Systems to ensure projects are executed on schedule and within budget, with high quality deliverables.
    • Ability to complete complex design projects with minimal supervision
    Requirements
    • 15+ years of combined experience in the design, construction, testing, and commissioning of railway signal systems
    • Experience in design/testing of signal circuits for CTC, interlocking and highway-railway grade cross warning system locations
    • Experience with 40Hz cab signaling systems
    • Experience in Electrologixs and XP4 application programming
    • Working knowledge of Bentley Microstation drafting software
    • Knowledge of FRA regulations and AREMA standards
