The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for owning the development of aspects of the battery pack and energy storage system installation related to safely managing high-temperature failures.
The ideal candidate will have experience in the design of lightweight, high-temperature metallic and composite structures and have enthusiasm for the iterative loop of design, analysis, and hands-on testing that comes with innovation in a new industry.
In this role you'll work in a small team environment focused on bringing your designs through verification testing and into volume production.
You'll utilize past industry experience combined with outside-the-box thinking to solve problems unique to the electric aviation industry.Your toolkit will include CAD software (CATIA), a variety of analysis tools, in-house fabrication capabilities, and a state-of-the-art test facility.

Design products using CAD, owning and managing all parts in detailed assembliesDevelop and build prototypes and run experiments to inform future designsDesign of experiments for individual components up to full system level assemblies to inform strategies of maintaining continued safe flight during high temperature, high-pressure failures System-level evaluation of the aircraft installation level impact of a battery failure event and ownership of associated designs to mitigate the effectsCreate drawings and manage BOMsFollow Review and Change processes, and assist in process improvementsWork with internal and external fabricators to see parts through manufacturingDevelopment of scalable manufacturing processes in parallel with product designExcellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with both internal & external customersHigh energy, self-motived, organized and detail-orientedMinimum Qualifications We are seeking:Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or other Engineering degree with a strong Mechanical Design focus from an accredited University.
Minimum 5 years experience in hands-on mechanical design, with experience in high-temperature applications and thermal analysisMastery of 3D CAD software (CATIA preferred) with experience in FEA (ANSYS preferred) with the ability to conduct preliminary sizing using hand calculations or FEMExperience designing products for certification - FAA certification experience preferredSelf-starter that is well organized, disciplined, and a team playerGood team, communication, and leadership skills required>Physical Demands andWork Environment:
