    SUMMARY:

    We are currently seeking a Senior Staff Nurse to join our Surgical Admissions team. This part-time role will be a 0.75 FTE, day/ evening/ on call position.

    Purpose of this Position: Within the context of the Hennepin Healthcare System Patient and Family Centered Care model, and under general supervision, the Senior Staff Nurse provides and coordinates complex nursing care by:

    • Protecting, promoting, and optimizing health
    • Preventing illness and injury
    • Alleviating suffering through the treatment of the human response
    • Partnering with the patient, the patient's family, and significant others
    • Documenting interventions and an individualized plan of care
    • Advancing nursing professional practice
    • Being a resource to the patient care area, role-modeling practice excellence, promoting evidence-based nursing practice, and facilitating innovation

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The Senior Staff Nurse performs all functions of the Staff Nurse and the following additional functions:

    • Assists in the development and implementation of nursing standards, policies, and procedures
    • Seeks and shares new knowledge in area of clinical expertise
    • Supports and develops strategies to create, sustain and nurture patient and family centered care
    • Provides expert clinical knowledge
    • Serves as a resource to other clinical staff, and provides nursing consultation to other units
    • Provides unit / department leadership through work as a charge nurse
    • Serves as a preceptor and provides leadership for educational processes on unit
    • Identifies re-occurring patient care issues, collaborates with leadership to postulate possible solutions, and works with the Nursing Manager on implementation of change
    • Supports the organizational mission and key priorities and assures continuity of unit work with
      organizational initiatives through the Annual Plan
    • Champions patient safety initiatives
    • Accepts projects and/or change management assignments from nurse/clinic manager supporting the change through evidenced-based practice
    • Serves as a member of the nursing leadership team
    • Participates as a member or chair of organizational initiatives and collaborative governance committees aimed at improving patient safety and excellence in nursing practice
    • Role models critical thinking and clinical and professional excellence
    • Develops effective and collaborative relationships with nursing peers and the multidisciplinary team
    • Uses systems thinking to proactively address issues
    • Participates in professional nursing organizations, maintains current knowledge of innovations in area of specialty by reading journals, participating in webinars and listservs, as well as obtaining information and learning from local, regional, and national conferences

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Graduation from an approved school of nursing

    -AND-

    • Three (3) years of professional nursing experience in Surgical Admissions, one year of which must be at Hennepin County Medical Center
    • Clinical experience as preceptor or charge nurse

    Effective July 28, 2014:

    • Bachelor's degree in nursing or enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program with progress to complete within two years of hire date

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Professional certification in specialty area of clinical expertise
    • Involved in a professional nursing organization

    License/Certifications:

    • Possession of a valid license as a Registered Nurse, issued by the State of Minnesota
