    DJ&A is a multidisciplinary consulting firm that delivers a wide variety of professional services to clients across the nation. Specializing in Transportation Design, Survey & Mapping, Sustainability, Site Development and Utilities, Construction Inspection/Management, Geospatial Solutions, Terrestrial LiDAR, 3D Scanning, Structural Design, Project Management, Community Involvement, Right of Way, and Environmental Compliance, we perform work in some of the most beautiful locations; National Forests, National Parks and Monuments, campgrounds and other recreational facilities, and other federal lands throughout the United States.     Founded in 1973 by two former U.S. Forest Service employees who saw a need for a company that uniquely understood Forest Service projects, DJ&A has continued to grow and expand over the last 50 years by embracing the values of our founders. Today, we have a team of 120+ skilled professionals spanning across offices in Missoula, MT (headquarters); Bozeman, MT; Vancouver, WA; Denver, CO; Sioux Falls, SD, and Reno, NV.

    Job Summary

    DJ&A is seeking a motivated, creative, and detail-oriented individual to join our team as an Entry-Level Transportation Planner. As a Transportation Planner, you will play a crucial role in supporting the development and implementation of multimodal transportation plans and policies to enhance efficiency, safety, and sustainability. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience in transportation planning and contribute to the improvement of mobility and sustainability. Must be a motivated self-starter who embraces the opportunity to work on a variety of projects in the western U.S. Must be team oriented and possess a desire to learn and grow with the company.

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities

    General

    · Must desire to be a key member of a highly competent team that tackles a variety of projects with interesting challenges.

    · Possesses a strong initiative to solve problems, develop creative solutions, learn new methods and techniques, and seek out answers to simple and complex questions.

    · Coordinates with other team members to ensure schedules, budgets, quality, and project requirements are achieved.

    · Interacts with clients, customers, officials, contractors, architects, and other members of the design community.

    · Implements QA/QC procedures.

    Project Work

    · Assist in the collection and analysis of transportation data, including traffic counts, travel behavior surveys, and demographic information.

    · Conduct research and assist in the evaluation of transportation projects, policies, and programs.

    · Support the development of transportation plans, including long-range transportation plans, corridor studies, and multimodal transportation plans.

    · Collaborate with senior planners and engineers to analyze transportation issues and propose innovative solutions.

    · Contribute to the preparation of reports, presentations, and technical documents related to transportation planning projects.

    · Assist in the coordination of public outreach activities, including community meetings and workshops.

    · Stay updated on emerging trends, best practices, and regulations in transportation planning.

    · Utilize computer software and tools, such as geographic information systems (GIS) and transportation modeling software, to analyze data and support planning efforts.

    · Assist in the preparation and review of traffic impact assessments.

    Required Skills and Abilities:

    · Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collect, interpret, and analyze transportation data.

    · Proficiency in using computer software and tools such as GIS, transportation modeling software, and/or Microsoft Office suite.

    · Familiarity with transportation planning principles, practices, and methodologies.

    · Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear and concise reports and presentations.

    · Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

    · Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

    · Knowledge of relevant federal, state, and local regulations and guidelines related to transportation planning.

    · Familiarity with sustainable transportation practices and principles is desirable.

    Education and Experience:

    · Bachelor's degree in urban planning, transportation planning, civil engineering, or a related field. Relevant coursework or specialization in transportation planning is preferred.

    · Previous internship or work experience in transportation planning or a related field is a plus.

    Physical Requirements:

    · Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working at a computer.

    Salary and Benefits

    · Wage range is approximately $26.00/hour to $36.00/hour commensurate with qualifications and experience.
