    Description

    Senior Accountant

    Precept provides comprehensive administrative and back-office services to a wine importing company operating in the U.S. market. Precept handles all accounting, finance, and operational support while an external team focuses on sales, marketing, and product operations. You will be hired by Precept and work exclusively on the wine importer business, giving you the benefits and infrastructure of a larger organization with the visibility and impact typically found only at smaller companies.

    As Senior Accountant, you will be the primary accounting resource for the wine importer, reporting to the Accounting Manager. You will own the month-end close process and be responsible for accurate and timely financial reporting that leadership relies on for decision-making. This role offers significant exposure across the business - you will work directly with sales, marketing, and operations teams, understand the full cycle from purchasing to revenue recognition, and have opportunities to take on analytical projects and present to senior leadership.

    While core accounting responsibilities form the foundation of this role, the real value comes from your ability to execute them efficiently and accurately, freeing up capacity for strategic analysis and process improvement. Successful performers in this role spend increasing time on high-value work by continuously optimizing routine processes.

    Core responsibilities include:

    • Monthly close, financial statement preparation, and variance analysis
    • Complex accruals requiring understanding of business cost drivers and allocation methodologies
    • Cash flow monitoring, foreign currency exposure reporting, and accounts payable management
    • Inventory analysis to support purchasing decisions and identify aging issues
    • Annual budgeting support and ad-hoc financial analysis for cross-functional teams
    • Presentations to wine importer CEO and senior leadership
    • Process improvements and tool-building to increase efficiency and visibility

    Ideal candidates:

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, CPA preferred
    • 4+ years of accounting experience, including responsibility for month-end close and financial statement preparation
    • Proven ability to execute core accounting work with accuracy and efficiency while continually improving processes
    • Excel power user skills with experience building tools and models
    • Demonstrated track record of process improvement
    • Strong analytical skills and ability to translate financial data into business insights for non-finance stakeholders
    • Experience with inventory costing, cost accounting, or inventory management
    • Enjoys working independently and proactively managing competing priorities
    • Energy and enthusiasm for problem-solving, not just task completion

    This position offers a combination of ownership and strategic exposure that is rare at the senior accountant level. You will gain exposure across the full business cycle: from purchasing and landed cost accounting through inventory management, sales recognition, and financial reporting. This end-to-end understanding accelerates your professional development and positions you for finance leadership roles.

    Full-time employment. Salary range: $85,000-$105,000, plus benefits (Healthcare, 401k once eligible, etc.), depending on experience. Start date: As soon as possible. Remote-position: Opportunities for hybrid or in office if candidate is local to Seattle Area.
