    General Function:


    Directs the operation of the cafeterias in all schools to ensure compliance with National School Lunch and Breakfast requirements, USDA regulations, sanitation, and quality standards.

    Coordinates with site administration and district programs.


    Education/Training/Experience:

    Minimum:
    Bachelor's Degree in food, nutrition, restaurant/institutional food, food management, or related field. Five (5) years of supervisory experience in a school system's daily food service operation. Strong leadership skills. Knowledge of budgets. Public Speaking skills.


    Preferred:
    Bilingual: English/Spanish


    Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:


    Comprehensive knowledge of nutrition, menu planning and analysis, and food preparation and presentation to provide healthy balanced meals to students K-12.

    Understanding of food procurement and inventory management. Supervisory solid and written and oral communication skills. Ability to market school meals. Knowledge of standard office software, including word processing, presentations, email, spreadsheets, etc. Knowledge of nutrition department software for kitchen operations and free/reduced determination.

    Ability to work independently and make various decisions, from public relations issues to safety and sanitation issues to resolving employee conflicts.

    Ability to manage budget and staffing.

    Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with students, parents, teachers, principals, district leadership, other district employees, the public, and the media.


    Essential Job Functions:


    Performs all functions in accordance with established policies, procedures, safety and environmental regulations, and facility and computer security policies and procedures.

    Functions are subject to change occasionally to meet the organization's needs.

    Current essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:


    • Maintains fiscal responsibility for the student nutrition budget. Establishes goals and budget for the department.
    • Creates systems for operations (food and supply ordering, department payroll, etc.). Evaluate operations and adjust as needed.
    • Provides operations manuals for all aspects of department and cafeteria operations.
    • Make staffing plans for the warehouse, Student Nutrition office, and cafeterias to effectively provide services and utilize resources.
    • Ensures department practices and procedures are in accordance with the current Collective Bargaining Act.
    • Prepares job descriptions for all positions. Conducts or oversees departments hiring processes to provide qualified staff and coordinates with district Human Resources.
    • Provides training for all staff that improves job performance and meets the USDA Professional Standards for Child Nutrition Programs.
    • Plans Days on Duty for staff based on the district calendar.
    • Directs staff and prepares tools to evaluate performance. Ensures that all staff complete yearly evaluations.
    • Deals effectively with employee performance issues by following the progressive discipline process and documenting all steps. Implements corrective action and recommends termination if warranted.
    • Plan new or remodeled kitchen facilities in collaboration with the district construction team and contracted design and construction professionals.
    • Identifies replacement equipment needs, writes specifications, and obtains pricing. Creates purchase orders. Coordinates equipment installation. Prepares Requests for Bids or Proposals and Contracts for equipment repairs.
    • Coordinates menu plans and standardized recipes to effectively use USDA Foods, Processed Commodities, and purchased food while meeting meal pattern requirements and budget goals.
    • Procures all food and supplies, meeting all state and federal procurement standards and requirements by writing specifications and procurement documents and collaborating with the Purchasing Department. Evaluate and recommend bid awards. Coordinates delivery, payment, etc.
    • Understands and selects appropriate software for program operations at kitchen sites and for processing of free and reduced lunch applications for all schools, if applicable. Oversees use. Oversees consolidation of meal data and preparation of reimbursement claims.
    • Communicate with the public, school personnel, administration, vendors, school board, and others regarding department operations by memo, e-mail, meetings, and presentations.
    • Attends training on child nutrition programs and commodities.
    • Evaluates the need for and recommends implementation of additional food programs such as Summer Food Service, etc.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Salary Range and Benefits:
    $74,571 - $103,725+


    Medical, dental, and vision benefits are available to full and part-time employees who work a minimum of 20 hours per week.

    Resources Used in Performing Job Include (but are not limited to):

    Typical office equipment and district business software.

    Selection and utilization of software specific to student nutrition operations, including free/reduced status determination, point of sale, production/inventory, meal count consolidation, and claim submission.


    Physical/Cognitive Requirements:
    Primarily work at a desk. May serve or be a cashier at schools, which requires standing. Typical office environment with many demands. Travel to visit schools or other departments frequently and may have to use a personal automobile.


    Environmental Conditions:
    Work is performed in a typical office environment, occasionally within a school cafeteria.

    • Protects the District's resources by appropriately and carefully using supplies and equipment.
    • Utilizes appropriate body mechanics to prevent muscle strain/injury.
