    Job DescriptionFNF Construction, Inc. is a general contractor providing heavy civil construction services throughout the Southwestern United States. We are seeking a Payroll Specialist I. Job Summary

    Process weekly payroll for construction field personnel in an efficient, accurate, and timely manner while complying with the company's established pay practices and all state/federal wage and hour laws in a high-volume, multi-state work environment.


    Principle Duties

    Below are the duties that are priorities and/or are subject to evaluation during performance reviews.

    1. Fast and accurate data entry of time cards, including the ability to accurately proof pre-entered payroll data and follow-up with field personnel on any issues or inconsistencies.
    2. Ability to learn new systems and new methods of payroll process in a construction environment.
    3. Timely communication with field regarding missing hours, employees or cost codes, including obtaining proper documentation of those communication efforts.
    4. Produce and distribute payroll-related reporting based on established deadlines.
    5. Work with field personnel relative to outside agencies' requests for information.
    6. Enter employee payroll data into payroll system, as required, relative to pay rates, taxes, and/or direct deposit information.
    7. Organize and maintain files and timecards digitally after each weekly payroll.
    8. Act as a resource who provides excellent customer service, either in-person or over the telephone, to employees and/or supervisors with questions or concerns about paychecks.
    9. Communicate effectively and professionally with outside agencies.
    10. Provide coverage and/or backup as needed for other payroll personnel.
    11. Provide coverage and/or back up as needed for front desk receptionist.
    12. Assist the Payroll Director and other team members with special projects, as needed.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Knowledge of the general policies and practices of construction/heavy highway companies.
    • Intermediate level of skill with Microsoft Office Products, to include Excel and Outlook
    • Current knowledge of applicable state and federal wage and hour laws.
    • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of personnel in a diverse work community.
    • Organizing and coordinating skills.
    • Attention to detail.
    • 10-key is essential.
    • Ability to simultaneously work on multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
    • Ability to maintain confidential information.
    • Ability to work well in a team environment.

    Education & Certification Requirements

    • High School Graduate; some college coursework in business administration or accounting-related subjects preferred
    • Those candidates with a current FPC (Fundamentals of Payroll Certification) will be given priority

    Work Experience

    • 2+ years of current experience, directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified above.
    • Exposure to the Certified Payroll Report (CPR) process would be helpful.
    • Must be able to provide three (3) business references related to current/past role(s) held in payroll.

    Other Requirements

    • Position is 100% in-office, remote work is not available.
    • Must have reliable and available transportation.

    Pay Range

    • Full-time, non-exempt position with hourly rate starting from $20-24/hr.
    • Pay rate will depend on level of experience and performance.
