    Job Description and Duties

Discover your full potential and develop your career working with us to manage California's groundwater resources by overseeing the implementation of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act.

    Under the general direction of the Supervising Engineer, WR in the Groundwater Sustainability Plan (GSP) Review Section of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Office (SGMO), in the Executive Division of the Department of Water Resources (DWR), the Senior Engineering Geologist, as a Specialist, performs, plans, and oversees difficult and complex technical engineering geologic and hydrogeologic work to support the implementation of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA).

    This position is eligible to participate in a hybrid telework schedule requiring a minimum of two days in the office per week. Participation in telework is subject to the Department's and SGMO's policies and supervisor approval.

    The Sustainable Groundwater Management Office (SGMO) is responsible for overseeing groundwater management efforts, including implementation of the SGMA, publishing California's Groundwater - Bulletin 118, and serving as a statewide hub for groundwater data, information, communication, and assistance efforts to ensure the long-term reliability of California's groundwater resources to support the State's people, environment, agriculture, and economy.

    Special Requirements

    Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a Geologist and/or Geophysicist issued by the California Board of Geologists and Geophysicists is required for appointment.

    Travel is required. Must possess a valid California driver's license with a good driving record to attend meetings and/or training.

    This position is covered in the Political Reform Act and requires financial disclosure within 30 days of the first and last day physically worked in a covered position and annually by April 1st.
