    This position will be assigned to work for the Konocti Unified School District. The general work hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm. During times when school is not in service, this position can take time off or assist other special assignment positions, like investigations or the traffic unit. This position would generally only fill in to cover patrol shifts on an emergency basis.

    Under the guidance of the educational and police administrations, the School Resource Officer (SRO) is entrusted with a multifaceted role designed to ensure a secure, nurturing educational environment. This position not only focuses on safeguarding students and staff but also on fostering positive relationships within the school community, educating students on law-related topics, and acting as a resource for crime prevention and intervention. The SRO's responsibilities are tailored specifically to the school setting, encompassing both law enforcement duties and educational roles:

    - Maintain a Visible Presence: Patrol school premises to ensure student and staff safety, prevent the occurrence of criminal activities, and enhance the sense of security within the school environment. This includes monitoring school grounds, coordinating with school administration for any specific safety concerns, and being readily available as a law enforcement resource.

    - Respond to Incidents: Address situations that require police involvement within the school, such as disturbances, illegal activities, or any instances that may jeopardize the well-being of the school community. The SRO is prepared to manage emergencies effectively, ensuring a swift and appropriate response to maintain safety.

    Experience and Training Guidelines:

    - Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver's license.
    - Prior experience in law enforcement, with demonstrated skills applicable to the school environment. Experience working with youth or within educational settings is highly desirable.
    - A strong foundation in law enforcement practices and principles, as evidenced by previous work experience and specialized training relevant to the SRO role.

    Ability to sit, stand, walk, run, kneel, crouch, squat, stoop, reach, crawl, twist, climb, and lift 100 lbs.; exposure to cold, heat, noise, outdoors, electrical hazards, dust, mechanical hazards, explosive materials and contagious diseases; Availability for shift work, work on-call, and stand-by call.

    Equipment Loan Program
    No interest loan to non-probationary officers for purchasing work-related equipment. No larger than $500 at a time and repaid on a monthly basis over a period not to exceed one year.
