Job DescriptionEssential Job Duties:
Perform assigned pre and post analytical activities related to anatomic pathology tests assigned including specimen collection and processing, Quality Control, equipment maintenance, inventory control, Quality Assurance and proficiency testing proceduresPerform analytical activities related to specimen processing, embedding, cutting, routine and special histologic staining, frozen sectioning, coverslipping, and handling of irreplaceable tissue, surgical, and body fluid specimensDirect work flow as needed, ensuring timely distribution of completed patient materials to assigned pathologists; Adjust employee tasks as needed during shift to ensure priorities and work volume is coveredImmediately notifies supervisor of malfunctioning instrumentation and employee call-ins; Immediately notifies supervisor of significant delays or errors which occur during shiftAdheres to all PBM Safety policies and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting bodies; Provide oversight and assistance in the event of employee injuries during shift, to include completing paperwork, assisting injured employee with medical care (as needed), and notifying appropriate managementUtilize automated Histology equipment properly according to lab procedures and manufacturers' instructionsHandle infectious biological specimens, caustics, toxic chemicals and/or irritants appropriately and safelyLearn and apply computer related applications and programs, including using electronic keyboard and other peripheral devicesEnsure work area has proper coverage at all times during the work shift, ie coverage or meal and/or rest periodsProtects confidentiality of patient information and results at all timesCross train in other areas as assigned or requestedPerform other duties as assigned or requestedRequirementsHT/HTL (ASCP) certification or obtained within 18 months of employmentMinimum of 1 year lab experience
