    Job Summary

    To assist in the performance of duties necessary to provide clean, quality linen to the customer in a timely manner, at adequate par levels to meet their needs.

    Duties include washing and folding linens and delivering correct par levels to each user department. Linen Technicians are also responsible for cleaning equipment and reporting equipment malfunctions promptly. Service provided will be consistent with the mission and philosophy of Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center. Linen will be provided to all customers regardless of age (from birth to maturity), sex, or national origin.


    Qualifications

    Education:
    High School diploma or G.E.D. preferred, but not required.


    Experience:
    Six months of previous or related work experience preferred, but not required.


    Job Knowledge:
    Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence , and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and employees of the organization. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

    Must have the ability to be trained to operate washers using correct detergent formulas, operate scales used to weigh linen, fold linen in a neat manner, operate the dryers correctly, deliver correct par level of linen to user areas, and record information requested.

    Must have the ability to meet time frames for completion of assignments. This ability will be demonstrated by on the job observation and written or oral evaluation.


    Performance Requirements

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: collecting and sorting all soiled linen from designated collection areas, weighing linen prior to washing, using correct washer formulas, keeping work area clean, loading and unloading washers and dryers, using correct dryer settings, folding dry linen in a neat manner, stocking carts, organizing two cart delivery system, delivering correct par levels to each user department, assisting in annual linen inventory, cleaning dryer vents daily, and utilizing proper forms for recording information.

    Maintains patient confidentiality. Maintains age specific safety precautions. Utilizes Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center's 5-step customer service plan when dealing with patients, visitors, and co-workers. Follows all infection control practices including hand washing and standard precautions.

    Linen Technicians will follow Facility Services Department policies as well as the policies and procedures of Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center at all times.


    Physical Demands:
    This position requires standing and walking most of the day.

    It also requires the ability to kneel, crouch, twist and turn, stoop, bend reach, pull, climb ladders, and lift up to 50 pounds.

    It is the responsibility of the employee to get help whenever something is too heavy for one person to safely lift.

    This position requires good vision and hearing, with or without the use of corrective devices.


    Special Demands:


    Ability to work independently without more than normal supervision, knowledge and observance of safety precautions, and work day, evening, or night shift as assigned.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.

    The employee is frequently exposed to noise (washers and dryers), airborne particles (lint), bio hazards, and using personal protective equipment.

    The employee is occasionally exposed to odors, fumes, and chemicals, and rarely exposed to electrical shock.
