    Job Corps is the country's most extensive nationwide residential career training program and has been operating for over 60 years. The program helps eligible young people ages 16 through 24, complete their high school education, trains them for meaningful careers, and assists them with obtaining employment. Job Corps has trained and educated over two million individuals since 1964.

    Oneonta Job Corps
    offers training in the Medical Trades: Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, and Medical Administrative Assistant. Automobile trades: Auto Body Collision and Repair, Auto Mechanics, and Auto Technician. Construction Trades: Tile Setting, Cement Mason, and Electrical. Advanced Trades: Overhead Line Electrical, Rural Underground Distribution, SMART Meter, and Drone Piloting.

    : Career Transition Specialist(Oneonta)

    We are seeking a Career Transition Specialist to join our Career Transition Services team here in Oneonta, New York. In this position, you'll play a key role in the success of our students, as you are responsible for counseling students in all aspects of Career Transition and Readiness, job search skills, job placement, job retention, and the exit processes.

    Major Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Develop and maintain relationships with all local and regional WIA Partners and other employment and training organizations, as well as placement agencies, etc.
    • Identify and maintain linkages for potential employment, advanced training, military, and other placement opportunities for all terminating students.
    • Maintain liaisons with employers, labor unions, state employment service offices, and Job Corps' placement and support agencies/contractors to facilitate students' ongoing and continuous placement.
    • Participate in employer-oriented community activities.
    • Identify separated students no longer employed, or in school, and ensure another reconnection with a placement agency, school, or remote Career Transition Specialist.
    • Conduct interviews with students entering the Career Transition Phase and provide further focus on job search techniques.
    • Create and maintain a caseload of active students and maintain bi-weekly and monthly contact by telephone.
    • Visit classrooms and trade shops to familiarize students with Career Transition Services.
    • Coordinate mock interview sessions, job fairs, and career days.
    • Identify support services needed for relocation, arrange transportation, make referrals to support service agencies, and initiate contact with formerly enrolled students before their separation from the Center.

    Note: This job description is not all-inclusive. You will perform other related duties to ensure the ongoing needs of the organization are being met.

    Skills & Competencies:

    • Demonstrated working knowledge of the targeted job markets, area employers, armed force recruitment offices, community agencies, etc.
    • Has strong interpersonal skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, strong presentation skills, job placement marketing skills, and the ability to establish liaisons and interact with private and public agencies.
    • Strong problem-solving skills.

    • Meticulous documentation and record-keeping skills, detail-oriented, and excellent time management skills
    • Computer literate and skilled with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and databases.

    Educational Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree or four years experience working with youth.
    • One year of experience in sales, marketing, or counseling-related services.
    • Must possess a valid driver's license

    Physical Activities:

    • Retrieving and storing files and supplies; occasionally carrying and, or lifting light objects
