Position Information:

The Golf Maintenance Specialist is responsible for performing golf course, facility, and equipment maintenance duties that include repairing, installing, and updating irrigation systems; repairing and maintaining heavy gas- and diesel-powered golf maintenance equipment; assisting with the purchase of new equipment and supplies; and mowing, edging, clean-up, maintains trees and shrubs, etc.

Essential Job Duties

Performs skilled mechanical repair and overhaul work on various types of equipment (gasoline and diesel) such as backhoes, front end loaders, tractors, sanders, mowers and small equipment, specialty equipment and all other types of municipal power-driven equipment and power tools.
Performs preventive maintenance on vehicles and/or equipment to include inspecting, diagnosing and locating mechanical problems in department vehicles and equipment.
Makes recommendations of parts and related inventory that may be needed for repairs.
Maintains service records including parts and supplies used in vehicle repairs and maintenance.
Processes and prioritizes work orders.
Complies with safety requirements of the position and actively promotes safe work practices.
Maintains, repairs, replaces, and/or installs various equipment and machines; assists with equipment purchasing decisions.
Operates and maintains a variety of equipment, which includes performing routine preventive maintenance and repairs.
Services and updates irrigation system for golf course; repairs, maintains, and cleans the irrigation system as needed.
Monitors and orders necessary inventory of janitorial supplies, golfing supplies (flags, trash cans, etc.) and other accessories; may run periodic price checks with vendors.
Performs general course maintenance duties including maintaining the course's visual appearance which may include trimming, mowing, and trash pickup; assisting in determining the course's playability; and additional maintenance projects as requested.
Performs course repair and course and preservation duties including applying pesticides and fertilizers, tending to course areas requiring special maintenance, irrigation repair, and other related activities.
Performs manual labor activities which may include gathering materials and equipment, moving equipment, collecting and disposing of trash, and/or performing other related activities.
Performs general golf course maintenance work such as mowing, edging, shrub and planting area clean-up, rakes sand traps, performs litter control, maintains trees and shrubs, changes holes on golf greens, mows roughs, trap bunkers, tee banks, etc.
Assists the Golf Maintenance Manager as needed.
Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate degree or two-year technical certificate in automotive and/or diesel technology, mechanics or related field AND 3-5 years of vehicle maintenance experience.
One year in the maintenance of refined turf areas, trees, shrubs, and other plantings and the operation of general mechanical maintenance and repair of turf equipment,or any suitable combination of experience and education, which would provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.
Possess and maintain a valid unrestricted Driver's License, except for corrected vision.
First Aid/CPR Certification or obtain within ninety (90) calendar days or as scheduled.
Pesticide Applicator License or obtain within ninety (90) calendar days or as scheduled.

Ideal Candidate Information

Required Knowledge and Ability:

Knowledge of maintenance of golf courses, trails, trees, landscape beds, or facilities.
Knowledge of engine repair techniques for various vehicles, trucks, buses, and equipment.
Knowledge of automotive maintenance and repair principles and practices.
Knowledge of applicable tools and equipment of the trade.
Knowledge of diagnostic devises utilized in identifying vehicle and/or equipment malfunctions.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
Knowledge of the use of parks maintenance and/or golf course equipment.
Knowledge of safety precautions and the ability to identify hazards including electrical hazards.
Ability and willingness to follow verbal and written instructions and to keep accurate work records.
Ability to operate small hand and power tools and light equipment.
Establish and maintain effective working relations with supervisors, coworkers and the public.
Punctual and dependable.
Ability and willingness to perform strenuous labor tasks under varying environmental conditions.
Ability and willingness to work flexible schedules, including, but not limited to, weekends and holidays.
Ability and willingness to work safely and in compliance with city policies and standards.
Communicate effectively both written and verbal in English.
Deal courteously and tactfully with the public and other city employees.
Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
