The Department of Sustainability & Environment at the University of South Dakota seeks candidates for a new faculty position in environmental sustainability at the instructor, lecturer, or assistant professor of practice (APP) level. We especially seek candidates with expertise in Indigenous/Native American knowledges and/or food systems. This is a full-time, in-person, 9-month position to begin in August 2024.

The successful candidate will contribute to the undergraduate sustainability curriculum by teaching Sustainable Environment (SUST 113) and Sustainable Environment Lab (SUST 113L) online and potentially at the University of South Dakota Sioux Falls campus and by mentoring undergraduate sustainability majors through academic advising. Additional teaching assignments will be determined based on the candidate's expertise. The position will have a higher-than-average service appointment for the candidate to lead sustainability co-curricular activities on the Vermillion main campus, such as advising student sustainability organizations and overseeing some campus sustainability efforts (e.g., campus garden).

At the APP level, the position would have a research appointment that would include mentoring graduate students in research. Preference will be given for candidates who conduct food systems and/or Native American-led or -informed research.
