    We are looking for a Chief Product Engineer that is safety and quality conscious and willing to learn and grow with the business. This is a role where you will work in a TEAM environment where safety always comes first. This position is an on-site position at our Alexandria facility.

    This position is accountable for providing optimum product design relative to the division's tank car and production; providing timely and accurate drawings, Bills of Material, and other engineering documents; conducting materials and metallurgical testing and development in support of the division's manufacturing methods and its product line; reviewing design criteria with value engineering principles; developing and recommending new and improved welding techniques; and assuring that optimum welding and paint procedures are available for shop use in current production. This position is also responsible for reviewing existing designs, converting existing cars and recommending repair procedures and altercations for tanks cars found to have operating, design and manufacturing defects.

    JOB DUTIES:

    As part of the leadership team, the successful incumbent will oversee the Product and Welding Engineering departments by leading and empowering the team to establish a productive and safe environment. This position will manage and lead the groups development, direction, and effectiveness, adhering to organizational policies and processes and supporting overall business and corporate objectives. The incumbent will provide technical replies to customer inquiries to maintain good customer relations, work with cross functional groups within various divisions of the organization, ensure effective representation of the company on technical matters and other interest to appropriate industry trade organizations and governmental agencies by providing engineering liaison with them.

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

    • Mechanical Engineering degree (BS) is required with a minimum of 10 years' experience in mechanical and structural design
    • 5 years' experience in a leadership role with managerial experience
    • Experience communicating with regulatory agencies to include DOT, AAR, and ASME
    SKILLS/SPECIFICATIONS:
    • Knowledge of DOT, AAR and ASME specifications related to pressure vessel
    • Problem solving abilities that arise from errors in Engineering, Production, Quality, or Purchasing
    • Ability to continuously review and improve work processes within the departments under their control
    • Experience in production and quotation scheduling
    • Managing multiple projects while ensuring quality and maintaining the product schedule
    • Strong oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated experience with high value presentations
