    Nammo Defense Systems Inc., a defense contractor, manufactures and supports shoulder-fired systems; energetic material solutions such as aircraft emergency escape systems, actuation devices, rocket motors, warheads, medium & large caliber ammunitions, mortar ammunition; and composite solutions including carbon fiber tubes and composite aero-structures.

    At Nammo Defense Systems, we take seriously our core values of Precision, Dedication and Care. We are seeking a Chief Manufacturing Engineer to join our Engineering Team.


    Position Summary:
    The chief manufacturing engineer is responsible for planning, executing, and overseeing manufacturing operations. This includes support of new product introduction and supporting existing production. The chief engineer may be asked to supervise a team of 4-6 manufacturing engineers. The chief will act as the technical expert and mentor for junior engineers.


    The Chief Engineer is responsible for developing the manufacturing team and assuring a high quality of work is maintained within the group, exploring growth opportunities, providing strategic input, and developing / monitoring performance metrics.

    The engineer will work directly work programs and is expected to devote at least 50% of their time to direct charge programs.


    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Strong understanding of manufacturing principles including: tooling, work instructions, standard operating procedures, process failure mode and effects, and lean manufacturing principles.
    • Apply engineering principles to safely process propellants, pyrotechnics, and/or explosives for product development or improvement to meet program requirements.
    • Act as the manufacturing technical lead for new products and existing product lines.
    • Define and maintain standards for tooling development
    • Understand tolerancing and ensure good tooling design practices are maintained within the company.
    • Develop and execute company strategic initiatives with a focus on operations documentation and tooling
    • May serve as Principal Investigator on both internal and external funded programs.
    • Prepare and approve technical reports detailing work progression and results.
    • Provide training to, and review results of experiments and analyses performed by other engineers and operators.
    • Provide labor, equipment, and material estimates for production work required to support development projects.
    • Follow standard practices and safety procedures.
    • Make oral presentations outlining/summarizing progress on selected projects and programs to both internal and external customers.
    • Coordinate and schedule support work for other departments.
    • Oversee a team of 4-6 manufacturing engineers

    Required Experience & Skills:

    • 4-year degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field is required. Graduate degree preferred.
    • Minimum 15 years' industry experience
    • Strong aptitude in mechanical design and tooling
    • Hands on experience with program/project work in applied R&D and / or production support.
    • Ability to obtain BATF approval to engage in certain explosive operations
