This position is with the Department of Administration, State Public Works Division, Buildings and Grounds Section. This position is responsible for grounds maintenance at B&G properties in Carson City and Reno. Duties include grounds maintenance, this includes mowing, trimming, edging, weeding, pest control and sprinkler repair and maintenance, snow removal, 24-hour on call duty for snow and ice removal from parking lots and walkways during the winter months in order to keep state employees and the public safe from snow and ice hazards. This position also provides extra services for office moves and special events for State agencies. This essential position is part of the Emergency Response Team and must respond to all emergency situations, such as snow fall, flooding and after hours call out situations.Grounds Maintenance Workers perform a wide variety of landscape, garden, and greenhouse duties such as planting, pruning, mowing, trimming, watering, fertilizing, and weeding; operate hand and power tools, and light mechanized equipment such as power mowers, tractor mowers, trenching devices, forklifts, and hoists.

PER EXECUTIVE ORDER , ALL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS HAVE BEEN WAIVED FOR THIS POSITION UNTIL JUNE 30, 2026. Please refer to the link for more information: year of experience performing grounds maintenance work using a variety of tools, equipment and techniques; OR six months of experience as a Grounds Maintenance Worker II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

This class specification lists the major knowledge, skills and abilities of the job and is not all inclusive. Incumbent(s) will be expected to have knowledge, skills and abilities from a previous level. Working knowledge of: gardening and landscape methods, techniques, material, and equipment; irrigation methods and practices; methods, materials and tools used in grounds service work; identification and eradication of common weeds, pests and plant diseases associated with gardening; health and safety practices applicable to grounds maintenance work.
