    Description

    Position Summary:

    The Development Manager is responsible for coordinating major giving, planned giving, and special projects to meet budgetary requirements for both operating expenses and long-term development. They will build and maintain positive relationships in the community, act as an ambassador for the organization and help forge new relationships to build visibility, impact, and financial resources. The Development Manager will be an active member of the organization's philanthropy team, tasked with all philanthropic efforts.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Develop, direct, manage, and evaluate major gift funding programs.
    • Research and coordinate grant and foundation application efforts.
    • Oversee and assist in coordinating, directing, and soliciting all planned legacy giving.
    • Assist in supporting capital campaigns through marketing and publicity.
    • Develop written proposals, illustrations, gift agreements, renewal letters, and other donor communications.
    • Assist with fundraising needs of public and capital campaigns.
    • Develop and manage recognition program for donors.
    • Build and maintain positive relationships in the community through networking and community involvement, exhibiting understanding and commitment to the organization's mission.
    • Track and report relationship management activity using a constituent relationship management system.
    • Oversee acknowledgments of all gifts and provide necessary documentation according to IRS regulations, ensuring proper and timely stewardship.
    • Remain knowledgeable of laws, policies, and guidelines for charitable and planned giving.
    • Other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Philanthropy.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business, marketing, public relations, or related field.
    • Five years of experience in a leadership role in a progressive non-profit and demonstrated knowledge of fundraising, advanced gift planning, capital campaigns, and major gifts solicitations.
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents and respond effectively to sensitive inquiries and complaints.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to persuade and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships.
    • Strong organizational, analytical, negotiating, and time management skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

    Physical Demands and Work Environment:

    • This position involves substantial standing and walking, moderate sitting, reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, talking or hearing, and lifting up to 60 pounds.
    • This work environment involves moderate outdoor work conditions and loud noise levels.
