The Public Utilities Bureau represents the People of the State of Illinois with respect to state and federal laws regulating public utilities, including energy (electricity and natural gas), water, and telecommunications services.

The Bureau addresses public policies on energy and other utility issues, including utility rates, the transition to clean energy, rulemakings, legislation, and development of federal energy policies and market rules.

The principal aim of the Bureau is to protect the states consumers from unreasonable rates and practices.

    Responsibilities:

Attorneys work extensively with experts to identify and understand principles of utility finance, accounting, economics, and engineering.
