- Work directly with students needing substantive support in data research and statistical analysis.
- Assist with in-class statistics labs in the social sciences.
- In collaboration with faculty, develop and lead help sessions for classes using statistical software (Stata, R, Excel). Sessions may be held during class time or at an alternative time at the faculty's discretion.
- Help students at all levels interpret statistical output contextually and assist students with data manipulation and data manipulation strategies.
- Assist faculty and students with selecting data sets for class assignments and theses, and provide guidance on data set creation when appropriate.
- Develop and assess resources pertaining to data research and statistical analysis (e.g., find/make videos that help students access and use statistical software) in collaboration with faculty.
- Regularly attend industry training on relevant software.
- Oversee and coordinate computing resources of social science departments
- Mentor peer tutors and conduct regular tutor training and ongoing professional development for tutors, with a specialized focus on data research and statistical analysis.

The Social Science Empirical Research Specialist works with faculty to support student learning of data research techniques and statistical analysis as used in the social sciences. The priority for this position is to provide direct student support and resource development for social science faculty and students. The Specialist will also collaborate with the QSR Director to support peer tutoring and develop resources related to statistical analysis and reporting results in student work. This is a two-year position with the possibility for renewal.
