Job Description

Shift: This is a part-time and seasonal position with variable daily work hours.

Distinguishing Features of the Class: This position is available in various City Departments. Applicants may choose/specify the departments that they would like to apply for.

This position requires attention to detail. Clerical duties will be assigned. Duties must be performed efficiently.

Examples of Work: May include, but not limited to; filing, answering phone, drafting letters or other city documents, and assisting other city employees or the general public.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to carry out oral and written instructions with minimum detail. Must possess adequate communication skills and deal tactfully with citizens of the public.

Acceptable Experience and Training: Minimum age is generally 16 years old. A work permit is required for students ages 17 and under.

City of Canton permanent, full-time employees (working 30 hours per week or more) and their eligible dependents become eligible for comprehensive health benefits on the first day of the month following 60 days of employment. Health benefits include hospitalization, outpatient services, prescription coverage, dental and vision coverage, and group life insurance.

Time off benefits may include paid vacation, paid holidays, and paid sick leave.

All Safety Forces (Police and Fire) become members of the Ohio Police and Fire Pension (OP & F). All other employees become members of the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS).
