    Position Summary The goal of internship is for a pharmacist-intern, over a period of time, to attain and build upon the knowledge, skills, responsibilities, and ability to safely, efficiently, and effectively practice pharmacy under the laws and rules of the state of Iowa.

    Position Responsibilities Unit Specific Position Responsibilities Process/replenish all medications kits used within the organization which include MICS boxes, Fanny Packs, OB kits, GI boxes, emergency crash cart trays, anesthesia kits and other kits/boxes on an as needed basis.

    Bulk charges kits as needed. Non-Sterile compounding/USP 795 policies, Master Formulations, labeling non-sterile medication: expiration, storage and dating of bulk and multi-dose medications. Maintains appropriate records for this process.

    Uses Master formulations for sterile batch compounding, appropriately labels and dates batch medications and maintains appropriate records for this process.

    Prepares and compounds all sterile and non-sterile Hazardous medications in a clean air, negative pressure hood under the supervision of a pharmacist or Compounding Committee Certified Pharmacy Technician.

    Adheres to all USP 800 and department policies with regard to cleaning the hoods, restocking the Hazardous medication room, donning Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and maintaining a clean room environment.

    Documents completion of tasks in Pharmacy system in a timely manner. Competent in performing Technician duties for all shifts (Labels, Sterile, Omnicell delivery, Cart fill delivery, Morning, Evening and Overnight roles)


    The pharmacist-intern shall comply with all professional, legal, moral, and ethical standards related to the practice of pharmacy and the operation of the pharmacy.

    Qualifications, Knowledge # Experience Required Qualifications (Including any licensure, certification, education):
    Must be a registered pharmacist-intern with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy Must be pursuing a degree in pharmacy in good faith and with reasonable diligence Must be at least starting their first professional year in a college of pharmacy (i.e., P1)


    May acquire internship hours under the supervision of one or more preceptors to meet the required minimum of 1500 hours accepted by the board to become licensed as a pharmacist.

    Pharmacist-intern registration will terminate upon the earliest of any of the following:

    Licensure to practice pharmacy in any state Lapse in the pursuit of a degree in pharmacy; or One year following graduation from the college of pharmacy Maintain Mandatory Reporter training throughout employment.

    Completed in-house training program in computer order entry and sterile product preparation.


    Organizational Requirements:
    Maintain stroke education per regulatory requirements
