    Job Description / Essential Elements:

    POSITION(S): Information Technology (IT) Technician

    Purpose

    The job of Information Technology (IT) Technician is done for the purpose/s of performing a variety of complex technical and administrative assistant duties in support of Information Technology projects and Department activities; assist the Director with administrative duties; plans organizes and coordinates projects, office activities and communications for the IT Department.

    This job reports to the Assigned Administrator/Supervisor.

    Essential Functions
    • Compiles financial data related to accounts, budgets and activities for the purpose of ensuring compliance with established guidelines and/or processing billing to customers.
    • Composes a variety of reporting options (e.g. instructions, rough draft, memoranda, lists, notices, requests, contracts, agendas manuals, etc.) for the purpose of responding to requests for specific data and developing new reports.
    • Maintains manual and electronic documents, files and records (e.g. help desk log, work order system, licensing and contracts, agendas, manuals, etc.) for the purpose of providing up-to-date reference and audit trail.
    • Maintains a variety of application software products and programs (e.g. new software, patches and/or upgrades, user data, controlling passwords, scheduling backups, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability and functionality of the software.
    • Participates in meetings, workshops and/or trainings for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.
    • Performs installation, configuration and progamming of telecommunications equipment, components and devices (i.e. VoIP phones); inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve basic telecommunication problems and malfunctions for the purpose of ensuring proper installation and use of phones, providing technical support and resolving operational issues.
    • Prepares variety of materials (e.g. instructions, notices, reminders, memos, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
    • Researches data and information for various reports (e.g. forms, applications, documents, etc.) for the purpose of accuracy and completeness of various documents.
    • Responds and completes work orders from assigned departments and schools regarding district supported software (e.g. A/V equipment, laptops, projectors, smartboards, etc.) for the purpose of resolving problems, providing information and/or referring to appropriate personnel.
    • Support assigned projects (i.e shipping and receiving goods and materials, receiving and logging payments, affix identificatoin tags, etc.) and programs for the purpose of ensuring security and functionality of district support.
    • Inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve hardware, software, peripheral and basic network system malfunctions; install, configure, maintain and repair various peripherals and network components such as printers, scanners, communications equipment, modems, devices and cabling for the purpose of responding to inquiries and resolving operational issues.
    • Provide assistance to technology users with resolving hardware and software malfunctions as assigned; receive and respond to telephone calls and correspondence regarding technology problems for the purpose of responding to inquiries and determining and implementing solutions.
    • Participate in providing technical training and support to technology users concerning the operation of computer hardware, software and peripherals, communicaton equipment, for the purpose of providing information and ensuring proper and efficient use of systems.
    • Perform general network administration activities such as establishing and maintaining user account, passwords, e-mail accounts, internet connectivity and security applications as assigned; assure proper network connectivity for various devices for the purpose of ensuring availability and functionality of software.
    • Receive, route and respond to helpdesk (Hotline) telephone calls as assigned; identify and respond to technology user needs for the purpose of determining and implementing solutions.
    • Set up and demonstrate usage of various audi-visual equipment and systems used in presentations, meetings and other events as assigned for the purpose of ensuring proper and efficient use of systems.
    Other Functions
    • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
    Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

    Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

    SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment using pertinent software applications; trouble shooting skills, planning and managing projects; preparing and maintaining accurate records.

    KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: business telephone etiquette and pertinent software applications; computer related diagnostic techniques and methodology; principles, methods and procedures of operating computers, peripheral equipment, basic telecommunicatons equipment; record-keeping techniques; accounting/bookkeeping principles; codes/laws/rules/regulations/policies; concepts of grammar, spelling and punctuation; current and emerging technology; keyboarding; office application software; office equipment and technology.

    Responsibility

    Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; operating within a defined budget.     Working Environment

    The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 70% sitting, 15% walking, and 15% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

    Experience Job related experience is required.

    Education High school diploma or equivalent. Associate's degree preferred.

    Equivalency Any combination equivalent to: two years college in a related field and two years of increasingly responsible secretarial, clerical and/or technical experience including work in information technology operations and activities.

    The stated education and experience requirements are the preferred minimum qualifications for this job. However, relevant experience to substitute for the education requirement and relevant education, certificates and/or licenses to substitute for the experience requirement may be allowed.
