    Description

    Summary:

    Reports to the Director Ambulatory Care Pharmacy. Responsible and accountable for all aspects of patient care medication preparation and dispensing provided through the Lifespan Pharmacy (LP) Specialty Drug Patient Management Program (SDPMP). Responsible and accountable for all aspects of compliance with accreditation standards requirements relative to the Lifespan Pharmacy SDPMP including the timely execution of all requisites of Specialty Pharmacy accreditations and reaccreditations including but not limited to URAC and the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC). Develops and maintains an effective work group consisting of direct and indirect report pharmacists and technicians. Ensures that specialty medication preparation prescription filling dispensing and electronic documentation are in accordance with established policies and procedures and applicable laws rules and regulations. Manages Lifespan Pharmacy SDPMP continuous quality assurance and quality improvement activities. Responsible for the development and implementation of policies and procedures for the SDPMP. Participates in budget development for specialty drugs.

    Responsibilities:

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES :

    Responsible for knowing and acting in accordance with the principles of the Lifespan Corporate Compliance Program and Code of Conduct.

    Responsible for providing customer-focused and coordinated delivery of specialty pharmacy services which consistently meet or exceed patient needs and expectations.

    Responsible for all aspects of patient care medication storage preparation and dispensing provided through the Lifespan Pharmacy SDPMP.

    Responsible for maintaining operational procedures that comply with SDPMP accreditation standards including but not limited to URAC and the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC) standards.

    Responsible for the timely execution of specialty pharmacy accreditation and reaccreditation requisites and timely document submission to accrediting bodies.

    Responsible for SDPMP continuous quality assurance and quality improvement activities. Chairs the Lifespan Pharmacy Clinical Advisory Committee (CAC). Serves on Lifespan Pharmacy Quality Management Committee (QMC).

    Responsible for the development and implementation of policies and procedures for the SDPMP.

    Responsible for on-going review and analysis of specialty pharmacy operations recommends and implements changes including the adoption of new technologies to increase staff efficiency and level of patient services and to ensure clinical technical and financial best-practices.

    Supports established clinical standards of care which consider age-specific needs of the patient populations served (neonate child adolescent adult geriatric).

    Ensures the SDPMP supports Lifespans strategies while maintaining fiscal responsibility.

    Participates in the development of short and long-term goals for Lifespan Pharmacy SDPMP in consideration of Lifespans mission its values and its key business objectives.

    Provides input into development of capital and operating budgets for the SDPMP may participate in explaining and resolving variances.

    Responsible for compliance with the 340B drug purchasing program.

    Responsible for the recruitment retention performance enhancement and competency assessment of subordinate personnel in collaboration with other managers.

    Provides for effective employee relations to promote employee satisfaction in the workplace. Ensures compliance with human resources policies and relevant organized labor contracts.

    Provides timely and accurate communication both written and verbal as appropriate regarding SDPMP operational changes and continuous quality improvement activities including goals and objectives of the SDPMP.

    Maintains knowledge of and expertise in leading edge developments in specialty pharmacy including therapeutics services programs and innovative technology by participation in ongoing independent study education-related professional activities and affiliations.

    Participates in system-wide committees and task forces as needed.

    Prepares papers for presentation at professional organization meetings submits manuscripts for publication in professional journals and authors articles for publication on the Pharmacy web site. Performs other administrator duties as required.

    QUALIFICATIONS-EDUCATION :

    Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of pharmacy. Advanced study in pharmacy or health-care related field preferably a masters degree or comparable work experience preferred.

    Maintains current unrestricted licensure as a licensed pharmacist in the State of Rhode Island.

    QUALIFICATIONS-EXPERIENCE :

    Minimum of five years progressively more responsible related experience preferably gained in a similarly diverse and operationally complex health care environment.

    Extensive knowledge and work experience with computerized pharmacy information and dispensing systems operations and clinical pharmacy services.

    Effective interpersonal and communication skills.

    SUPERVISION :

    Direct supervision of up to 7 FTEs supervisory personnel

    Indirect supervision of up to 50 FTEs professional and support personnel
