Job DescriptionWe are seeking a Career Specialist that will be responsible for preparing students in career development and academic advisement workshops during the transition to a college degree. The Career Specialist links all aspects of job readiness and career development to set program participants on a successful academic and career path.

This is a hourly, part-time position.

Example of Duties:

Provide classroom instruction to participants in computer literacy, job search techniques, life skills, job retention strategies, pre-vocational/career transition opportunities and one-on-one tutoring, as needed
Coordinate all aspects of career development and academic advisement programming
Enter student data and maintain student database; maintain student files, and manage program records and complete reports for attendance, placement, and retention
Provide career counseling to program participants and assist students in identifying a career pathway and create Individual Career Plans
Identify and schedule potential speakers or career professionals to speak to program participants
Assist in developing, designing and maintaining appropriate documentation to keep track of interviews and job offers
Assist in marketing the program and recruiting eligible program participants
Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a related field required
Minimum one year of experience as a career counselor, or related experience preferred
Prior experience working effectively with diverse, low-income youth/adult student populations
Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, preferred
Excellent computer and database management skills preferred
Previous experience working on a grant-funded project a plus
Follow curriculum guidelines
Ability to work some evening and weekend hours, as program requires

The completion of a background check will be required for the selected candidate.
