    Purpose

    Assists the Program Coordinator and Program Administrators in the activities, events, and operations of the summer playground programs for participants (age group in a safe manner.

    *This job will run from late May until late July, and will average 30-40 hours per week. Summer staff will be placed at various site locations throughout Kingsport. Duties will include, but not limited to, organizing games/activities, supervising, directing and leading the summer participants of ages 6-12. Outdoor activities will be included in the majority of the program.

    Essential Functions
    • Implement hands on activities through organized games, arts and crafts, nature activities, field trips, etc;
    • Supervise playground attendants and participants;
    • Ensure playground rules and regulations are followed;
    • Plan field trips, provide and collect permission slips and money from participants; compile attendance roster for trips;
    • Maintain discipline of the program attendants and participants and report disciplinary problems to the Program Administrator/Coordinator ;
    • Handle parent concerns and report them to the Program Coordinator;
    • Prepare and maintain related records and reports; ex.; disciplinary action, accident reports, program evaluations, etc;
    • Keep facilities and playgrounds clean at all times;
    • Maintain inventory of all supplies and equipment;
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.
    Qualifications
    • Knowledge of playground operations and associated health and safety regulations;
    • Knowledge of general Parks and Recreation operating policies and procedures;
    • Knowledge of general office support practices and procedures;
    • Knowledge of modern first aid techniques;
    • Skill in planning, organizing, and coordinating a variety of playground activities and events;
    • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other city department staff and the general public;
    • Skill in performing basic facility maintenance;
    • Ability to follow oral and written instructions;
    • Ability to supervise.
    Education and Experience

    Must be a minimum age of 16; experience in working with pre-school or school age children (ex: scouting, coaching, babysitting, etc.); and/or study in the field of recreation, early elementary education, physical fitness, special needs, art, music, drama and/or experience in a related field preferred.
