    Position Description

    DEPARTMENT: Recreation
    TITLE: Day Camp Director
    CLASSIFICATION: Seasonal, Non-Exempt
    SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Day Camp Director is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the overall operations and structure of the District's day camp programs to ensure a fun and safe learning environment for the campers.

    SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Recreation Supervisor.
    SUPERVISION EXCERCISED: Day Camp Lead Counselors and Day Camp Counselors.

    1. Plans, coordinates, and oversees the District's day camp programs.
    2. Approves and implements all camp activities and field trips.
    3. Develops a themed calendar/schedule for the summer.
    4. Hires, trains, schedules, supervises, and evaluates camp staff; coordinates pre-camp staff orientation and training; coordinates post-camp staff performance evaluations.
    5. Responsible for the safety and well-being of campers and staff.
    6. Coordinates preparing, updating, and maintaining class attendance records, class rosters, medical/allergy lists for campers, and other reports and records required by the program.
    7. Communicates with parents in a professional manner; promptly reports any schedule changes, program supply needs, and participant issues or concerns to parents.
    8. Responsible for opening/closing facilities, ensures programs start/end on time, and facilities are clean and organized.
    9. Assists the Recreation Supervisor in evaluating camp programs and reviewing camp operations.
    10. Ensures adequate levels of program equipment and supplies are on hand to meet the needs of day camp operations.
    11. Oversees the Gateway Portal for the Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) and Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) licensing.
    12. Monitors camp finances and tracks expenditures compared to budget.
    13. Coordinates District interactions with the Voluntary Action Center for meal deliveries, the Kishwaukee Special Recreation Association, and the school district as needed.
    14. Participates in all camp activities and field trips (includes swimming); drives a vehicle for errands or field trips as needed.
    15. Performs all jobs and tasks within guidelines and rules of District's safety program.
    16. Other duties as assigned.

    PERIPHERAL DUTIES:
    1. Provides backup to related positions when possible.
    2. Operates a park district vehicle for transportation of children per required program.
    3. Assists with purchasing supplies and equipment.
    4. Handles direct medical storage and dispensation according to parental direction.
    5. The first voice when working with the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) on child issues.
    6. Handles all billing with 4-C's, DCFS, and charitable organizations.

    DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    1. Education and Experience:
    A. Minimum age of 21 years.
    B years of experience working with children in a camp or recreation program.
    C. 2 years of accredited college courses in related fields.
    D. Must be currently certified in CPR, AED and First Aid from an accredited organization or obtain certification within one month of employment.

    2. Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    A. Ability to effectively engage and instruct children in group activities.
    B. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
    C. Ability to complete the Gateway Portal for the Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) and Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) training for counselors.
    D. Strong organizational and supervisory skills.
    E. Excellent communication skills; ability to effectively communicate with children, parents, and members of community organizations.
    F. Ability to physically participate in program activities, games, sports, and crafts.
    G. Ability to portray a professional image of the District.
    H. Knowledge of basic accounting principles as it pertains to billing, budget control, and purchasing.
    I. Valid driver's license.

    4. Office equipment - e.g., copiers, computers, printers, and faxes.
    5. First Aid supplies and AED.
