The UT Health Austin Ambulatory Surgery Center clinicians collaborate with colleagues at the Dell Medical School, The University of Texas at Austin, and in the community to utilize the latest research, diagnostic, and treatment techniques in every surgical encounter. Our experienced healthcare professionals deliver personalized, whole-person care of uncompromising quality and treat each patient as an individual with unique circumstances and priorities. Fully equipped with the latest technology and IT integration, the Ambulatory Surgery Center is staffed to provide same-day surgical care for patients and is Accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) with Medicare-deemed status. To serve as a key team member in the Ambulatory Surgery Center at UT Health Austin. This position is responsible for planning, executing, and evaluating the nursing care provided to the surgical patient during the intra-operative period as an endoscopy nurse. Nursing care meets the standards of the profession, the policies and procedures of the Center and is appropriate to the needs of patients and their families.

    Demonstrates knowledge of surgical procedures and has the ability to oversee the instrument and equipment set-up, prepare for the case utilizing preference cards, and anticipates needs of surgeon.


    • Participates in hand-off communication to PACU staff to ensure continuity of care.
    • Responsible for the handling of biohazardous materials and surgical specimens. Knowledge of current surgical procedures and anesthesia care; Effective problem-solving skills to include data analysis and judgment to make effective decisions; Ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced, multi-physician practice environment; Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with providers, staff, and patients; Basic computer skills and experience with electronic health records; Ability to work with minimal supervision

    Bachelor's degree in Nursing; Bilingual in English and Spanish; Experience conducting quality improvement projects and/or serving on a quality committee; Experience in an ambulatory surgery center, pre- and post settings, and experience as a scrub nurse.

    Experience with general, OBGYN, ophthalmology and orthopedic procedures
    Work hours are variable based on patient care needs but are generally Monday-Friday

    • Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to provide patient care and operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, and occasional use of other office equipment
    • Physical strength for equipment needs and patient care activities; Exposure to noisy equipment
    • Work is performed in a patient care setting and may involve exposure to infections, communicable diseases and hazardous materials, radiation/laser, waste gases and blood and body fluids. Frequent exposure to water and chemicals used in disinfection/sterilization process
