    Description

    Building Automation Technician position is responsible for work of complex difficulty in operation, maintenance ( controls, sensors), modifications, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of Building Automation Systems, Fire Protection Systems, Security Systems and other tasks as they apply to demands of the department.

    Building Automation Technician III- perform work with greater degree of self-sufficiency and independence. To be a mentor, to provide guidance and to train lower level technicians.


    Responsibilities:

    • Troubleshoots, calibrates, repairs, and/or coordinates repair of field and panel mounted devices along with associated control algorithms for HVAC and building environmental automation systems. Assists with maintenance and operation of Fire Protection Systems, Security System.
    • Assists in the design, installation and commissioning of new and modification of existing automation systems including but not limited to additional card readers, relocation of thermostats, installation of new VAV controllers as well implementation of various building automation hardware and computer software systems.
    • Assists in the coordination of on-going construction activities and response to out-of-band environmental parameters.
    • Provide detailed reports on equipment utilization.
    • Provides training to others in the operation and repair of automated building systems.
    • May require rotating on-call status and occasional shift work including nights, holidays and weekend.
    • Requires ability to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime as required. May require occasional travel for reasons such as training or project support.
    • Other miscellaneous duties may be required to be performed based on needs of the day.

    Qualifications:

    • In-depth knowledge of electronic principles, knowledge of computer programming and the ability to write simply programs.
    • Analytical ability for problem solving.
    • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, sequences of operations, control drawings and control loops.
    • Ability and willingness to rapidly learn new technical skills and apply them in the maintenance and operation of the facility. Analytical ability for problem solving and to communicate effectively with others in writing and verbally.
    • Ability to bend, squat or crouch, crawl, kneel, stoop, stretch and stand and/or work in cramped areas for prolonged periods of times while repairing equipment both at floor level, overhead, and or/in confined space areas.
    • Ability to climb stairs and ladders (both inclined and vertical).
    • Ability to enter man-holes, vaults, and other classified and unclassified confined spaces. A respirator and/or specialized personal protective equipment may be required to access certain confined spaces.
    • Certification in confined space entry or ability to qualify within 6 months.
    • With or without assistance, must be able to exert 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects and job-related materials and/or equipment.
    • Pay range: per hour dependent on experience.
