    About the Job


    The Health and Safety Manager leads and manages the safety operations of the Portland facility to ensure compliance with all federal, state and local safety laws and regulations.

    Monitors the overall operations of production, ensuring the safety and security of everyone, enforcing strict regulations and company safety protocols.

    This position reports directly to the Operations Manager of the facility and collaborates with all employees, customers, external business partners, non-profits and any government entity.

    Essential Functions & Major Responsibilities


    • Develop facility safety health programs and objectives and coordinate safety-training programs.
    • Monitor safety and health regulations and provide technical support to plant and corporate personnel to ensure compliance with EPA, Federal and State safety, and health regulations.
    • Provide technical safety and health support and information to production and corporate personnel.
    • Prepare written safety and health programs and policies.
    • Identify company safety training needs and develop and coordinate environmental health and safety training programs.
    • Develop annual company safety and health goals.
    • Participate in new product/process reviews including Job Safety Assessments and Operator Training.
    • Support corporate/plant engineering to implement engineering controls to minimize safety and occupational health hazards.
    • Support plant personnel in selection of appropriate personal protective equipment.
    • Maintain a safety library (e.g. videos, regulations, reference manuals).
    • Promote safety and health awareness through internal company memoranda, newsletters, and specific training programs.
    • ACT Safety audit liaison in overseeing the Facility's safety Programs.
    • Implements and directs the Environmental and Health.
    • Understand Federal and State, occupational safety and health regulations and monitor regulatory changes (through the Federal Register, etc.) as they occur.
    • Advise manufacturing plants and corporate staff of regulatory changes with which the plants must comply and ensure advance notice is provided so that compliance on the effective date of new regulations is assured.
    • Periodically audit practices and records of manufacturing plants to ensure compliance with company programs, EPA and Federal/State occupational safety and health regulations.
    • Comply with quality policies and procedures.
    • Monitor lost-time injuries/illnesses and Worker's Compensation Claims, accurately reporting information timely.
    • Ensure ISO procedures are followed.
    • Recommend topics for discussion for safety and health meetings.
    • Review injury/illness and non-injury incident investigation reports and follow-up as necessary.
    • Ensures all timekeeping is accurately maintained and reported and submitted daily, weekly, and as ne Administer and maintain all records for Safety Program and Safety Meetings.
    • Administer Training and Education of Supervisors and Employees for all Safety issues. Set up annual training requirements for fork-lift , haz com, confined space, respirator fittings testing and training, blood borne pathogens, etc.
    • Set up timely safety inspections and tours of each department in the plant. Maintain and coordinate safety inspections for all departments from all outside agencies including Insurance, EPA, OR-OSHA and Fire Departments.
    • Manage OSHA 300 log and post annually.
    • Identify and purchase Safety materials needed for plant operations.
    • Perform Safety new hire orientations
    • Maintain databases of safety equipment tracking and employee reimbursement.
    • Provide advice on facility matters to counsel and Operations Manager
    • Perform other responsibilities as needed by the Operations Manager.

    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents.

    • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
    • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
    • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
    • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
    Education/Experience


    • BS in Occupational Health and Safety or related field (preferred)
    * - 5 years' experience in manufacturing environment with responsibility for Health and Safety

    • Knowledge of current Oregon OSHA regulations and requirements
    • Current OSHA 501 Certification (preferred)
