    Savannah Technical College is seeking a part time/adjunct faculty member for the Dental Hygiene program on the Savannah Campus. The individual will report to the Dean for Health Sciences and the Department Head of the Dental Hygiene Program.

    The Dental Hygiene Program Program Instructor will be responsible for the following duties:


    • Instructs, manages, and supervises individuals and groups in classrooms, laboratories, and clinicals through using appropriate teaching methods;
    • Prepares lesson plans for classroom instruction for the dental hygiene courses;
    • Develop and coordinate curriculum; conduct assessments of all courses taught in the department as requested;
    • Evaluate effectiveness of courses through student data, graduate surveys, and employer surveys;
    • Evaluate instruction and learning by means of appropriate testing and/or evaluation methods;
    • Maintain and submit accurate and current reports and records involving student accountability, attendance, performance, an follow-up;
    • Coordinates cooperative work experience programs and students as assigned;
    • Assist with completion of reports and requests for information from internal and external departments and agencies;
    • Ensure compliance with dental hygiene accreditation standards of regional and national accrediting agencies;
    • Attend and assist with coordinating dental hygiene advisory committee for the department;
    • Participate in College committees and meetings;
    • Collaborate with colleagues on common curriculum areas;
    • Instruct students, develops program syllabi, goals, and objectives;
    • Maintains a student-oriented approach to education;
    • Assist department head and/or program coordinator, faculty, and department staff in maintaining an effective program.
    • Attend faculty and other meetings, as assigned;
    • Maintain desirable and safe laboratory and clinical conditions;
    • Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by attending staff development training, workshops, seminars and conferences;
    • Follow policies/procedures of Savannah Technical College, to include standards for student-faculty professional relationships/interaction.
    • Communicate and interact professionally, with college employees, students, and visitors, utilizing excellent organizational and customer service skills.
    • Improves professionally and maintains currency in the courses taught by: Reading and utilizing materials found in trade, technical, and professional publications; Surveying and researching industrial and business establishments; Obtaining and maintaining certification and degree as required; Attending professional and specialty courses; Keeping abreast of new development trends, and techniques.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
    Minimum Qualifications:


    • Bachelor's Degree in Dental Hygiene or related field from a regionally accredited institution.
    • Current knowledge of the specific subjects of the appointed teaching assignments.
    • Faculty who are dental hygienists or dentists must be graduates of a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation and hold a current unencumbered GA dental or dental hygiene license.
    • Current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.
    • Basic computer skills to include, but not limited to, Word; Excel; Power Point; and Outlook.
    Preferred Qualifications:


    • Master's Degree from a regionally accredited institution.
    • Two years clinical experience.
    • Two years teaching experience.
    • Background in current educational methodology, theory and practice.
    Physical Demands

    Teaching responsibilities are typically performed in a classroom/lab environment with the employee intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling for three (3) - four (4) continuous hours at a time.

    The employee frequently lifts/carries objects that weigh 10lbs. or less.

    Clinical responsibilities are typically performed in a hospital, long term care facility, or other medical facilities and require that the employee stand/or walk for seven (7) - eight (8) hours: bend, twist, push/and or pull for three (3) - four (4) hours; and occasionally lift 50lbs.

    to 75lbs. per rotation. The exposure to infectious diseases, gas, or fumes is possible during clinical rotations.

    Salary/Benefits

    Salary is commensurate with education and work experience.
