    The Ernst Lab (Division of Experimental Medicine) seeks a highly motivated Staff Research Associate 2 NEX to work in collaboration with the Kutys Lab, investigating mechanisms of immunity to Mycobacterium tuberculosis using a newly-developed biomimetic human granuloma culture model. The successful candidate must show documented proficiency in BSL2 biosafety, primary human cell culture, human sample handling and harvest techniques, aseptic technique, and cellular and molecular immunology techniques including primary cell isolation, flow cytometry, and functional cell assays, as well as recombinant DNA and next generation sequencing technologies. Duties will include standard and repetitive technical laboratory procedures.
    The incumbent is expected to be able to work independently, after training, and will undertake a research project under general supervision by two collaborating faculty is expected to make innovative observations and contributions that build and extend the scope of the project, indicating a significant independent contribution beyond the journey level.
    The job will involve the ability to stand and walk for extended period during the work hours which is necessary to perform lab duties. Ability and willingness to work in a Biosafety Level 3 (BSL3) facility with live, virulent strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis is also essential.

    Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% – 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

    For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.
