    Description

    Job Summary

    This tenure track faculty member will develop a program of research in collaboration with the Elaine Marieb Nursing and Engineering Center for Innovation, participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of educational programming in the Elain Marieb College of Nursing. They will work with the faculty in multiple campus departments on campus to promote opportunities for inter-professional education.

    Individuals will be considered in all areas of basic/applied research in nursing, but the department is putting special consideration for those with research focused in the following areas: "Innovation and technology for health management. An overall emphasis on social justice is part of the College's mission.

    This position requires a dynamic response to constantly changing work environment. Advising and teaching responsibilities frequently compete for priority requiring flexibility and adaptability. This position requires the abilities of a very qualified educator with broad nursing faculty experience including substantial expertise in teaching.

    Essential Functions

  • Research / Scholarship (40%): Engage in an active program of research/scholarship.Demonstrate impact through dissemination of research/scholarship.Support program of research/scholarship through internal and external funding sources.
  • Teach Courses for the College of Nursing (TEACHING) (50%): Teaching the courses necessary each semester during the academic year for both undergraduate and graduate programs.Developing and preparation of course syllabi, learning objectives, assignments, correcting student assignments and providing student feedback for each course that is taught.Select learning experiences and guide students in achieving desired outcomes.Participate in the evaluation process of students.Creating teaching materials to be used.Teaching courses within the baccalaureate and graduate programs as needed.Collaborating with other faculty in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating teaching/learning strategies and curricula [244 CMR ].Recommend new instructional and education research techniques obtained at professional simulation conferences, user groups, and self-development.Faculty guidance and advisement of students.Available to students for advising during the semester and slightly more during registration periods plus additional hours by appointment.
  • Provide service for the Achievement of College Goals (10%): Participation as an active member of various College committees as well as College Faculty Assembly and annual retreats as well as participation in the systematic evaluation of the undergraduate nursing program (244 CMR ].Assisting with and representing the College at orientation, registration and graduation activities for incoming and graduating students.Initiating recommendations for additional resources and changes according to College needs.Participation in the hiring and selection of faculty of the college through attendance at candidate presentations.Participating in prospective nursing student recruitment activities.Participating in the development, recommendation, implementation, and evaluation of academic baccalaureate curriculum policies/procedures and issue resolution [244 CMR ].Engage in activities that advance the mission and goals of the College and University.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • An earned Research Doctorate degree in Nursing required [244 CMR ].
  • One or more years Post-Doctoral appointment(s) in an area that would benefit our Elain Marieb College of Nursing and Engineering Center for Innovation.
  • Massachusetts RN license is required by time of appointment and must be maintained in good standing [244 CMR ].
  • Experience as nursing faculty is preferred within the past 2-3 years.
  • Ability to maintain nursing practice and academic expertise appropriate to teaching responsibilities [244 CMR ].
  • Ability to communicate effectively with undergraduate/graduate students, faculty and staff both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to use an online teaching platform and basic IT applications.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Work Schedule

  • May include some nights and weekends.
  • Office / Lab space will be assigned based on need. Faculty working remotely more than 2 days per week share hoteling space in Skinner hall on Amherst campus.
  • Laptop and startup research funds will be provided.
  • Salary Information

  • Salary commensurate with education, experience, and certifications along with an administrative stipend will be provided.
  • Additional Details

  • This appointment will initially include a teaching assignment of up to 50% effort, along with 40% scholarship and 10% service. Candidates will be expected to teach existing undergraduate and graduate courses in our curriculum in relevant Nursing courses. Funded scholarship in excess of 23% effort may reduce teaching assignment.
  • Must maintain professional development annually.
  • Participation in the Annual Faculty Reporting process is required.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an internationally recognized scholarly presence.
  • The steps of the process are as follows: A minimally qualified pool is identified from the applicants.Minimally qualified candidate submissions are evaluated, and those moving forward will participate in a brief discussion about the position via video conference. For candidates advancing to the next level, references will be contacted, and candidates will have an opportunity to submit 1 or 2 representative scholarly works.Candidates advancing beyond this point will be invited to interview on campus.
