    The Medical Director, as part of the hospital leadership team, will be responsible for overseeing the medical operations of the hospital, serving as a mentor to the staff and leading the advancement of high-quality patient care and client service. The Medical Director will also work in collaboration with other hospital leaders and UVC support team members to maintain and build our relationships with the referring community.

    The ideal candidate will have leadership/management experience. Other areas of leadership experience (academia, industry, not-for profit) will be considered. The successful candidate should also possess strong emotional intelligence, be authentic, and display empathy toward others.

    Medical Director Primary Responsibilities

    Skills and Qualifications

    • A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree, or equivalent, from an accredited university
    • At least 5 years of clinical, scientific, or industry experience, ideally in a high-volume environment
    • Ability to become licensed to practice in the state of Colorado
    • Professional and excellent interpersonal skills and a positive, diplomatic attitude

    Promote and Uphold Exceptional Medical Quality Practices

    • Ensure current practices, SOPs, BPGs are available and support standards of care.
    • Evaluate future growth of services to improve standards of care.
    • Foster an environment of psychological safety.
    • Evaluate patient-care risks and concerns; follow-up on breaches in best practices.
    • Review medical records and provide client/DVM follow-up as needed.

    Medical Culture

    • Cultivate learning and training across all areas of the hospital.
    • Ensure clinician-driven principles are upheld and hold clinicians accountable to the standards that are created/expected.
    • Ensure house officer training and development is provided for existing programs.

    Clinician Retention and Engagement

    • Host quarterly clinician check-ins along with hospital leadership.
    • Host/cohost periodic clinician +/- all-staff meetings.
    • Provide orientation and select mentors for new clinicians.
    • Discuss areas of clinical development with clinicians.
    • Discuss future goals and growth with clinicians.
    • Assess services and identify solutions for improvement (staffing, equipment, etc.)

    Clinician Recruiting

    • Prepare team for candidate site visits.
    • Host a favorable site visit.
    • Partner with recruiting and other members of hospital leadership team.
    • Follow-up with candidate.

    Med-Ops Partnership

    • Develop business acumen.
    • Routinely evaluate clinician productivity and efficiency.
    • Evaluate facilities and equipment needs along with hospital leadership.
    • Identify areas for OpEx expenditures.
    • Seek areas of partnership and integration with UVC and our systems.

    Personal growth and development

    • Attend regular meetings with other UVC leaders and the VP of Specialty Operations.
    • Consider future goals and professional/leadership development.
    • Identify and develop successors for medical leadership.
